Letters .Patent No. 67,606, dated August 6, 1867.
IMPROVED SASH-PASTENER.
i @its tigcttle tefimh tn in these ttterslntmt zum making putt uitte samt.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, SENECA E. STnIcKLAND, of Amboy, inf the county of. Lee, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful'improvement in Window-Sash Fasteners und I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, Vin which- Figure I is an elevation, showing the fastener attached to the sash.
Figure 2 is a transverse section.
Fignre is a vertical section of the fastener', 'represented whennot sustaining the sash.
Figure 4 is a similar section, representing the parts as situated when sustaining the sash'.
The same letters are employed in all the figures in the indication of identical pa-rts. V
A is thevexternal casing, which is attached to the face of the sash. It is constructed with a slot, A',
formed'by the intersection of two arcs, thro'uglrwhich passes the stern of the knob B, which is attached to the `movablejaw C. This latter piece is formed with a rough and indented face, to hold it when pressed against the wooden easing of a window. On the back edge it is formed with a recess to recivithe end ot' theT-i'ormed wedge D, which bears at one end against the cap A, and at the other against the buse of the recess in the jaw It is formed as represented in the drawing, and bears at each end against slightly curved surfaces. When the jaw is allowed to fall into the position shown in fig. 3, it not being in contact with the casing, the window may be raised or lowered freely. When it is desired to secure the' sash in any position, the knob B being pressed upwards, thejnw C will be forced against the casing, and the wedge D, bearing against it and the cap, will prevent the sash from falling, it pressnl th'ejaw and forcing it outwards with a force increasing with the weight. i
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is
A sash-fastener, formed by the combination of the parts A, B, G, and D, respectively, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth. v i
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
