So great to be celebrating YouTube's 20th birthday at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this week. During a mainstage keynote at the Lumière Theater at the Palais, I shared how our platform is shaping global culture and three bets for the future of creativity:
1. Creators will continue to flip formats and blend genres.
Today, creators are the startups of Hollywood. Like most startups, they’re reimagining the industry that inspired them. Case in point: Amelia Dimoldenberg, who joined me on-stage in Cannes, reinvented the celebrity interview format with her immensely popular show Chicken Shop Date. Along the way, she’s given fans what they’re really hungry for: authenticity.
2. Communities will continue to surprise us with the power of their collective fandom.
On YouTube, loyal fans don't just consume culture. They actively shape it. I loved hearing Alex Cooper talk on-stage about how she keeps her fanbase “The Daddy Gang” in mind during her creative process. This relationship with her fans in turn drives the cultural conversation around her show.
3. AI will push the limits of human creativity.
Creators are among the earliest adopters and fastest movers when it comes to technology. We’re excited to give them tools like Google DeepMind's Veo 3 model, coming to Shorts this summer. VFX artist and creator Brandon Baum demoed Veo 3 on-stage, showing us how AI can transform not just how we tell stories, but who gets to tell them.
My biggest bet of all: YouTube will continue to be where it all happens. Where anyone can turn their dream into a career and bring people together.
It was an honor to take the stage at #CannesLions2025. Thank you to all of our artists, partners and creators on this journey with us.
