IMPROVED NECK-'Y'.OKE.
The Schedule referred to in theseLei-.ters Patent and making part of the sanne.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal veiticalsectional view of` one end of a neck-yoke with my invention attached.
Figure 2A is aside view ofthe same. 4 Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts in all `the figures.
The nature of this invention relates to improvements 1n neck-yokesfor carriages, 85e.; and
The invention consists in a simple arrangement of a hook, levers, and spring, whereby the hold-back breast-strap may be readily,` easily, and quickly attached to the neck-yoke, and held rmly and securely against all danger of accidental release, at the same time admitting of being easily released when desired.
To enable others to understand the construction and operation of my invention, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the drawings.
Letter A represents one end of an ordinarys-,neckyoke for Wagons, carriages, Ste.` y
-D represents a metal plate, seated in a suitable recess in the neck-yoke A, and secured by the screws E E.
J represents a lever, pivoted in a slot in the plate n, at j. H represents a lever, pivoted, at h, in the same slot as J substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
One side of the leverJ- lies flush to the outside of the neck-yoke A, and-the other end lies on lever lELl P is 'a spring, attached at R to the plate D,`and 71;. resting on the lever J L is a thumb-key, passing throughthe guard N. v" O is the breast-strap, formed simply with a loop,l forj j passing over the neck-yoke A. 1- l l 'The manner of operating my device is asjfollows; ,y ,Y` Slipping the loop on the Istrap O ovelgthe` end of j the neck-yoke A to the position shown by c, it may readily be passed under the hook B, as it will throiv down the projecting end of the lever H as it passes' over it and when the strap reaches the position shown by' G, the lever E will resume its position, and form a catch for holding the strap securely in position. Now, hy pressing on the slideL, the lever H may be thrown in the position shown by the dotted lines, and the strapA easily slipped from beneathv the hook B.- y 5 It will also be seen, that while there is any strain! (as in case-ofirunaways, 85e.) on the stiap C, the lever), J cannot assume Athe position shown-by theldotted.y lines, and consequently cannot become released. y
Having thus described my invention, v :y f Whatl claim as new, and ldesire to secure by Let-v ters Patent, is n Thecombination of the lever J andvspring P with* the lever H, hook B, and plate D, and thumbkey L,v
Signed at Galesburg, Illinois, this 11th day ofMarch,
