Description
PATENTED. JAN 71868 grits h germ gaunt @ffirr.
WILLIAM C. GRISWOLD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 72,998, dated Janaaryv'i, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAT-BLOCKING MACHINES.
Be'it known that I, WILLIAM GRISWOLD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hat-Blocking Machines, of which the following is a full and clear description,
reference being had to the annexed drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a vertical section through the centre of the machine, and
Figure 2 a plan view of the clamps, the ring to which said clamps are hinged, and of the ring for raising the clamps. I
My invention is an improvement calculated to simplify, the mechanism for-breaking the band, and it consists in resting the ring A, to which the'clamps are hinged, upon-spiral springs 'c,-which surround the three v osts 01, which support said ring A. When the lever .Z and its band-ring n is lowered down upon the hatbody, on the machine, and the clamps b raised up to a horizontal position by means of ring In, the crown and the brim of the hat are stretched, but the band is not sufliciently broken; andito effect this the lever l and band-ring n are forced down still lower, and, as'thering A rests upon springs, it is capable of yielding downward with the motion of said band-ring n. The ring it, which keeps the clamps up in a horizontal position, must also yield, with the whole system of band-ring clamps, 8:0. I
Having now fully described myinvention, what I claim therein, is- I The ring A, to which the clamps are hinged when elastically seated, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
W; G. GRISWOLD.
