Description
`l@uitrit tzrtrs iger-tint @frn t' LONZO O. ARNOLD, OF NORWALK, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 70,0165, dated October 22, 1867. i
"'fgc dgcbulc refcrnh tu in ilgrsc Qrttrrs atmt mth making partent tige same.
TO ALL WHOM I'l M AY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ALONZO C. ARNOLD, of the town of Norwalk, county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have inventedl a new and useful improvement in the mode of constructing Crossers to Felting Machines; and I do hcrch)Y declare that the following is a correct description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of refcrcnce marked thereon. i
The nature of'nly-invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an improved mode of crossing the fibre to forni the batting for felt cloth.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same.
Figure Lrepresents a side view and part section of the cross'r.
Figure 2, a plan viow of the same. p l v The framework', with doll'er comb-cylinders, and other attachments, constructl in the usual manner. My sts in the arrangement of a series of horizontally travelling endless belts or bands A, as containing,r a number of diagonally inclined sharp teeth B, to take hold s it proceeds from the defer-comb, in its passage across the inally from the cylinders L of the cai-ding machine, and when whole distance, and is broken ofi' at the sunk part M of p the arm E, which aetuates the levers and various i ding rods F to descend simultaneously on the The drawing-- improvements consi shown in the drawing, figs. 1 and .Z of and support th'e transverse bat, or sliver, a fibrous hat or sliver' that travels along longitud the whole area of this sliver has crossed the same the the dotTer D, the` pin C, in the end of the doifer, lifts u arrangements N N N, and causes the whole of theA falling or divi longitudinal bat, and by means of the vertical slotted vibrating-lever G, rotating arm H, and pin I, presses o, and by thc inclined and forward movement of thc lever G, disengages, the transverse bat from the teeth B of the bands A, allowing it to'fall on the longitudinal travelling-hat, as it passes along from the carding-machine cylinder, causing the' same to be connected therewith in the manner required. And when this is accomplished, the spring K, or its equivalent, presses-on the top of the lever or arm E, instantly lifting up the fuller-rods F, and supportsthemlill thc next revolution of the dofi'enand pin C causes the same operation to be repeated. The novelty andutility of this improved movement for the purpose required are in its simplicity and effectiveness. What I claim lnsmy invention, and desire to securerby Letters Patent, i s i The arrangement of the seris ,oi` tra elling endless-toothed bands A, and equivalents, in Atliemanncr as and for the purposev described. l
Also, i-n'c-ombiiiation with the arm E and levers N, the slotted vibrating-lever G, rotating arm H, and pin I, as and for the 'purpose set forth.
