WILLIAM A.v JORDAN, OF AN ORLEANS, LOUISIANA. Letters Patent llo.v 61,668, dated January 29, 1867.
IMPROVED WASH-(BOARD.
@te ,Srlgehnle marsh tu iii these iettgr-s' lartcut mit making gaat nf the smite.
To ALL WHoM 1T MAY CONCERN;
Be it known that I, WILnIAM A. JORDAN, of New Orleans, Louisiana, have invented a new, and improved rash-Board, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principlesr of my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to have secured to Ine byLetters Patent.
The present invention consists in attaching to the under side of the ordinary wash-board one or more springs, by means of which the board is allowed to yield to the pressure brought to hear upon it in the rubbing of the clothes, whereby a great amount of wear upon clothes is prevented, as well 'as injury to the hands of the person rubbing the clothes. In the accompanying plate of drawings my'improved, wash-board is illustrated- 'Figure 1 being a plan view of the under side of the board; and
Figure 2 an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. l Y
A, in the drawings, represents the wash-board, which may be of any of'the ordinary constructions and forms. BB, two springs securedto the under side of the board, extending across the width, which springsiare Secured at'their centre to the board7 and are loose or vfree at each end, which are connected together through similar round rods or bars, C. With the springs B applic-d` tov the under side of the wash-board, it is plainly obvious that a yielding board is-produced when pressure is brought to bear upon it, whereby the advantages heretofore vstated are secured.
y What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The springs B, secured at their centres to the rear of the wash-hoard, and having their ends secured tothe connecting-rod C, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 26th day of' October, 1866.`
