Interstate Highway Restrictions

Washington Bridge & I-195, East Providence/Providence

Bypass lanes for I-195 West traffic from East Providence to Providence remain open. This temporary traffic pattern allows three lanes of travel eastbound and three lanes of travel westbound – all operating on the eastbound Washington Bridge. Expect delays.

Providence: I-195 East and West, from I-95 to South Main St., up to two lanes closed for bridge preservation work, Tues., and Thurs. night, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

Providence: I-195 East, from Exit 1A to Exit 1B/C, and I-195 West, from the Potter St. overpass to the Gano St. on-ramp up to two lanes closed for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Providence: I-95 North motorists are using a new traffic pattern after the Downtown exit and near Providence Place Mall with a newly relocated Exit 38, about one mile south of its former location. RIDOT has posted numerous signs to guide motorists to their destinations.

Providence: I-95 North, from Exit 38 to Exit 39A, right lane closed for bridge work, Fri. night (July 18), just before midnight – 5 a.m.

Providence: I-95 at the Exit 37 interchange will be temporarily closed for bridge demolition work, Sat. night (July 19), midnight – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Providence: I-95 at the Exit 37 interchange, various ramps will be closed and reopened when no longer needed for guardrail installation and paving, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 11 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Providence: I-95, from Exit 36B to Exit 39A, alternating lane closures for paving and barrier installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Cranston: All travel lanes on I-95 North and South at Route 10 have shifted to the right through 2026.

Providence: I-95 at Eddy Street, all lanes will be narrowed and shifted to the left on I-95 North and South at this overpass, located near the Thurbers Ave. (Exit 35) interchange for bridge work until further notice.

Warwick: I-95 South at East Ave. will be closed for steel beam placement, Sun. night, 11 p.m. – 5 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Warwick: I-95 North at East Ave. will be closed for steel beam placement, Mon., and Tues. nights, 11 p.m. – 5 a.m. Follow signed detours.

Temporary Ramp Closure

Johnston: The on-ramp from Plainfield Pke. East and West to I-295 North will be closed for brush cutting, Mon. night, 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Overnight

Hopkinton: I-95, from Exit 1 to Exit 4, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Wed. night, 9 p.m. – 3 a.m.

Hopkinton and Warwick-Providence: I-95, from Exit 1 to Exit 4, and from 28B to Exit 33B, left lane closures in a moving operation for maintenance, Mon. night, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Delays possible.

Providence: I-95 South at Exit 37 B/C/D, crews will be sweeping and bridge washing in a moving operation with narrowed lanes, Tues. night, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.

Providence/Cranston/Warwick: I-95, from Rte. 37. to Thurbers Ave., alternating lane closures for barrier and drainage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Providence/East Providence: I-195 West, from the India Point Park Pedestrian Bridge to the Iway Bridge, left lane closed for drainage work, Wed. night, 8:30 p.m.-5 a.m.

Smithfield: I-295 at Rte. 7 (Douglas Pk.), alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 at East Ave., alternating lane closures for steel beam placement, Sun. – Tues. nights, 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Warwick: I-95 at East Ave., alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Wed., and Thurs. nights, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Weekday

East Providence: I-195 West, at Exit 2 (Broadway/East Providence), left center lane closed for pavement repair. Expect delays.

Smithfield: I-295 below Rte. 116, left lane closed for a bridge inspection, Wed., 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Continuing

Cumberland: I-295, over Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), at the Mendon Rd. Bridge, travel lanes reduced from three to two for bridge work.

Warwick: I-95 North, from Exit 24B to Exit 27, lanes have shifted to the right for road widening through June.

Warwick: The on-ramp to I-95 North from Rte. 113 (East Ave.) will be closed through the fall. Follow signed detour.

Reconstruction of Route 146 (Lincoln/North Smithfield)

North Smithfield: A lane split is in place on Rte. 146 North just before the Sayles Hill Rd. intersection. Rte. 146 NB through-traffic will continue straight over the new portion of the Sayles Hill Rd. flyover in the left lane. Sayles Hill Rd. traffic, local turns, and wide loads are directed to the right lane. Both lanes continue north through Rte. 146.

Lincoln: Rte. 99 South, from Exit 1 to Rte. 146 South, alternating lane closures to implement a lane split, Fri. night (July 18), 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. All lanes go through.

Lincoln: I-295 at Exits 18A/18B to Rte. 146, alternating lane closures for drainage installation, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

6/10 Interchange Project (Providence)

Route 10

Rte. 10 South, all lanes shift to the left near the Broadway overpass.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

Cranston: Elmwood Ave. at the Rte. 10 overpass, lanes will be narrowed and one of the two lanes on Elmwood Ave. southbound will be closed for bridge work until further notice.

Cumberland/Lincoln: All Rte. 99 traffic will shift to the right through the end of the year at the Blackstone River Bridge, carrying Rte. 99 over the Blackstone River.

Providence: All traffic on Rte. 146 under the Hawkins St. Bridge has shifted to the right.

Temporary Exit/Ramp Closures

Johnston: The on-ramp from Hartford Ave. to Rte. 6 East will be closed for milling, Tues. night, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Johnston: Rte. 6 East at Killingly St., alternating lane closures for survey work, Tues. night, 9 p.m. – 4 a.m.
