I-95 15 Bridges, Providence/Cranston/Warwick
Motorists are currently experiencing a lane shift in both directions of I-95 at the bridge we’re decommissioning over an inactive rail line near Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence. Last weekend, we demolished the outside two lanes of the bridge, and this weekend, we’re scheduled to demolish the inside two lanes. Starting this Friday night, November 14 at 9 p.m. through Monday morning, November 17 at 5 a.m., we will close the two left lanes on I-95 North, after the Route 10 (Exit 33) interchange, and on I-95 South, after the Thurbers Avenue (Exit 35) interchange. Other planned operations at this project for next week include installation of debris netting and shielding for demolition of the Eddy Street and Broad Street bridges and pier construction along the I-95 median at Exit 33 for the Huntington North and South bridges. Motorists can expect alternating lane closures for these operations on both directions of I-95, from Park Avenue to Thurbers Avenue, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Beginning Friday night, November 21 at 9 p.m., we’ll shift traffic onto a portion of a bridge we just built, carrying Route 10 over Elmwood Avenue. Route 10 South will need to detour onto Elmwood Avenue. Once the traffic shift is complete, we will activate a new traffic signal on Route 10 North at the on-ramp from Elmwood Avenue. This entire interchange is being redesigned as part of this project to a signalized intersection, and further changes will be necessary as the project is constructed. On Saturday, November 22, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., we will temporarily close Elmwood Avenue in both directions to demolish the old bridge. This day-long closure will help reduce the impact of this work on nearby residents. Please follow signed detours during all closures.
