Abstract
Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device emitting light having a particularly short wavelength, which has high luminous efficiency, low driving voltage and long emission life. Also disclosed are a illuminating device and a display device, each using such an organic electroluminescent device. The organic electroluminescent device is characterized by containing a partial structure of a metal complex represented by the following general formula (1). [chemical formula 1] (1) (In the formula, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10 and E11 each represents a carbon atom, -CRa, a nitrogen atom or -NRb, and Ra and Rb may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, provided that at least one of Ra and Rb is a substituent; X1, X2 and X3 each represents a carbon atom, a nitrogen atom, an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, provided that at least one of X1, X2 and X3 is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and M represents a group 8-10 transition metal element of the periodic table.)
