Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for learning and practicing the correct swing level of a golf club according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a device of the aforementioned type is known from US Pat. No. 3,794,329.
- This device consists of a frame with an arc-shaped rail in this frame, to which a runner is slidably attached.
- a golf club is connected to the runner via an articulated connection. In this way, a person can carry out a predetermined swing movement with the golf club. Since the frame is adjustable in inclination, the swing movement can take place in different inclination planes or at different inclination angles.
- US Pat. No. 3,918,073 Another device for learning and practicing the correct swing level of a golf club is known from US Pat. No. 3,918,073.
- This device uses the visual observation or recording of the golf player and the swing movement of the golf club.
- a platform on which the golf player exercises the swing movement is provided with a rectangular grid as a guide.
- the visual observation or recording takes place automatically and permanently by means of several automatically controlled cameras.
- Both of the above-mentioned devices are technically relatively complex and their use is locally restricted.
- the first device according to US Pat. No. 3,794,329 also severely limits the freedom of movement of the golf player as well as the use for golfers of different sizes.
- the observation method according to US Pat. No. 3,918,073 does not allow a direct correction of the swing movement since the recordings made with the cameras first have to be evaluated.
- the device according to the invention is very simple and allows practicing and learning the correct swing level of the golf club in principle at any location, without the need for major structures and preparations.
- a laser diode is inserted and switched on in the golf club.
- the protective cap possibly placed on the outside of the optics is removed, so that the laser beam can emerge at the end of the handle end coaxially to the shaft or handle of the golf club.
- the swing of the golf club creates a line marked by the laser beam on the floor in a certain area. This line is visible to the practitioner or learner and gives him information about the quality of his golf club swing level.
- the laser diode can remain in the golf club or be removed after the end of the exercise. When removing it, it is advisable to insert a sleeve or a rod into the opening to compensate for the weight. This can be of advantage if the same golf club is to be used both for practicing / learning and for playing golf itself.
- the laser diode in the golf club, it may also make sense to mount the laser diode on the outside of the shaft or handle of the golf club or in a corresponding lateral recess. In this case the laser beam would be aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft or handle of the golf club. It is of course possible to deflect the laser beam into the coaxial alignment by means of appropriate optical or mirror elements.
- FIG. 1 shows the device for learning and practicing the correct swing level of a golf club, partly in longitudinal section
- Figure 2 shows the phases of movement of a swing movement with the devices of Figure 1;
- Figure 3 shows the course of the laser beam of the device of Figure 1 with an ideal swing plane
- FIG. 1 shows a golf club 15, consisting of club head 1, shaft 2 and handle 3.
- the number 4 denotes the club head width within which the golf ball 5 must be hit during the shot.
- the handle 3 is provided at the upper end with an axial receiving opening 6, in which a laser 7 is installed.
- a semiconductor laser with a wavelength in the visible range from 380 nm to 780 nm, preferably 670 nm, is used as laser 7.
- the laser diode (7) is operated by means of one or more batteries or accumulators 8, which are likewise inserted into the receiving opening 6 of the handle 3 and which are connected to the laser 7 via an electrical contact 9.
- the laser 7 is switched on via a switch 10 and then operates in continuous operation.
- a centrifugal switch can advantageously be used as the switch 10, which immediately activates the laser 7 when the swing begins to move due to the centrifugal force generated and switches it off when the golf club is in the rest position. This saves energy and a battery change or recharging the batteries is only required at longer intervals.
- the laser 7 should belong to laser class two, that is to say have an output power of less than 1 mW, so that there is no danger to the eyes of persons and no additional protective measures have to be taken.
- the laser beam 11 generated by the laser 7 represents an extension of the axial longitudinal axis of the
- the laser 7 is precisely fixed in the receiving opening 6, for example by means of at least two centering rings 23, in the axial longitudinal axis of the shaft 2 and handle 3.
- Other fixing systems familiar to a person skilled in the art are also conceivable here, for example also casting or gluing the laser with optics in the receiving opening in the handle 3.
- the laser beam 11 generated by the laser 7 is guided through an optical system 12, so that the narrowest possible parallel laser beam 11 leaves the golf club, which in this way has a sharp and clearly visible laser spot 16 on the Floor 14 generated and thus shows a visible line of the swing movement. Due to the focusing described, the laser beam 11 can also be clearly recognized even when exposed to the sun.
- FIG 2 the complete golf swing is shown in six movement phases. Due to the necessary posture of the head for the golfer 13 with a view towards the tee point and golf ball 5, and thus at the same time on the ground 14, the golfer 13 can himself as well as another person, e.g. The golf instructor can see and observe the point or line-shaped image of the laser beam 11 emitted by the laser 7 in the handle 3 of the golf club 15 on the floor 14.
- the laser beam 11 extends the axial longitudinal axis of the shaft 2 and handle 3 of the golf club 15 towards the bottom 14. This means that the line 16 drawn on the bottom 14 of the laser beam 11 directly represents the movement of the golf club 15 during the swing movement.
- the laser beam 11 describes a line 16 on the ground 14, which initially leads backwards from the tee point or golf ball 5.
- the golfer swings 13 through the golf club 15 to the front, whereby the laser spot 16 generated by the laser beam 11 on the floor 14 wanders forward.
- the golf club 15 strikes the golf ball 5 between the downswing (phase 4) and the downswing (phase 5).
- the laser beam 11 is not directed at a hazardous area, for example at the head of the practitioner, at any time on the swing plane, as is the case here Figure 2 shows with phases 1 to 6.
- other protective measures such as safety glasses or the like, are of course also possible.
- the exact course of the laser points 16 on the floor 14 during the swing plane is described below with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4.
- FIGS. 3-5 the relationship between the golf swing performed, i.e. the swing plane and the image 16 of the laser beam 11 on the floor 14 are shown.
- the position of the golfer 13 is marked with 17 during the golf swing.
- FIG. 3 first shows the course of the laser dot 16 with an ideal swing plane.
- the laser beam 11 draws a straight line on the ground 14 during the golf swing, the laser point 16 running in phases 1 to 3 of the swing in one direction and during phases 4 to 6 in the opposite direction.
- the straight line drawn by the laser beam 11 runs during the entire swing within the tolerance field 18 previously marked on the floor 14.
- the tolerance field 18 serves for better orientation for the position of the swing plane.
- the width of the tolerance field 18 is normally two club head widths 4, but can be adjusted by the golf player 13 to his personal width.
- the tolerance field 18 is marked a maximum of three to four meters before and after the desired tee position 19 of the golf ball 5.
- the striking surface 20 of the golf club 15 is exactly perpendicular (square) to the intended trajectory 21 of the golf ball 5 at the moment of the tee position 19 of the golf ball 5, as shown in FIG. 5a is.
- FIG. 4 shows the line of the laser point 16 for the case of a swing plane changed during the stroke.
- the laser point 16 draws a curve on the bottom 14, which generally also lies partly outside the marked tolerance field 18.
- the striking surface 20 is no longer perpendicular to the intended trajectory 21 of the golf ball 5 at the moment of the striking position 19, but is inclined by an angle 22, as in the case of one in FIG 4 described non-ideal swing level is the case.
- An open face 20, i.e. a negative angle 22 due to a too steep swing plane produces a deviation of the flight path 21 to the right (slice)
- a closed face 20, i.e. a positive angle 22 due to a too flat swing plane produces a deviation of the trajectory 21 to the left (hook).
- the decisive factor as to how the striking surface 20 stands at the striking position 19 at the moment of impact, and thus decisive for the trajectory 21 of the golf ball 5, is primarily the swing plane, which is visibly projected onto the ground 14 by the device described above by means of a laser beam 11.
