Abstract
A nucleotide sequence which specifically hybridises with a genomic nucleic acid sequence of Campylobacter fetus. In particular, the sequence is selected from nucleotide sequences SEQ ID No. 1 and SEQ ID No. 2, the respective complementary sequences thereof, and sequences distinguished therefrom by the mutation, insertion, deletion or substitution of one or more bases. Fragments of said sequence may be used as specific primers for amplifying sequences specific for Campylobacter fetus, and as nucleic probes specific for nucleic sequences of Campylobacter fetus. A method for detecting the presence of Campylobacter fetus strains in a biological sample, and a kit for carrying out the method, are also disclosed.
