  • the efficacy of ethyl formate seems to be based on the fact that, in the same manner as formic acid, it selectively pro ⁇ motes lactic acid fermentation. But, in contrast to the situa ⁇ tion when formic acid is used, the pH of the forage is not lowered to below 4 by means of the preservative. When ethyl formate is used, the pH drops at a somewhat slower rate than when formic acid is added, and thereby the above-mentioned disadvantages to people and apparatus are avoided.

Solid state or a tendency to precipitate causes practical inconvenience of many kinds, such as nozzle clogging and sedimentation of the preservative suspension. It has now been shown surprisingly that benzoic acid and its salts dissolve well in ethyl formate, in which case these disad ⁇ vantages can also be avoided.

  • Ethyl formate is excellently suited for preservative solutions which contain benzoic acid.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un agent de conservation destiné à être utilisé dans la préparation de fourrages verts, l'agent de conservation comprenant un ingrédient actif basé sur l'acide formique et qui favorise la fermentation lactique. La sélectivité de la fermentation lactique est augmentée et ses effets secondaires indésirables tels que la corrosion et les risques pour l'utilisateur et l'environnemnt sont éliminés en choisissant le formiate d'éthyle comme ingrédient actif basé sur l'acide formique. Le formiate d'éthyle peut être utilisé en combinaison avec des agents actifs et des agents auxiliaires habituels, tels que les acides (C1-C10)carboxyliques.
