Description
iwf "einer,
EL1snAfTURNER,-or WoLooTTVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
Letters .Patent No. 98,209, dated December 21, 1869.V
The Schedule referred to in these Letters .Patent and making part of the same.
To Il whom itqnay concern l y Be it vknown that .Lf-ELISHA TURNER, of' Wolcottville, inthe county of Litchfield, 'and State of Conneeticlltflmve invented and made a new^ .and useful Invention in Cord-'lightencrs for Curtain-llxtures; vand I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention.
' Cord-tighteners for cu|'tain'-pul|eys have before been made, with the pulley fitted in a slide having'rutehetxteeth, into-which a tongue or pawl upon .the pulleyblcck passes, -to hohlv the pulley to -any point at which it' niay be placed intighteninr the cord.
My invention consists in a slide, for the pulley, formed jitha series otholes through the thin sheetmetal of which the said slide is composed, the said slide'beingrased at the'hack part by means of ribs alonglhe edges, in order that the project-ion upon the block of the pulley, in entering the said holes, may not come against the surface of'the window-casing t0 which the cord-tiglrtener may he applied.
In the drawingl Figure 1 is 11n-elevation of the said cord-tightener;
Figure 2 is a verticalsection ofthe same; and
Figure 3 is a horizontalfseetion at the line x x.
a represents the surface of. t'he window-casing or other place -of attachment of the cord-'tightenexa bis thesheetmetal slide formed with thc returned edges-1 1-, between which the block c, carrying the pulley d, slides.
The back ofthe slide?) is made with the ribs 2 2at the edges, so that the centre portieri of the slide at the hack is kept away from the surface a, and in this centre portion ofthe back, holes, 3 3, are formed, and upon the block c is a projection, 4.
I When the' cord to the pulley is strained, the projection is `kept in to one of the holes 3, the -bloelg c, rocking in 'its `slide by the strain of said cord; but the projection '4, although passing through the hole, does not come into contaetwlth thesurfiiceor casing n. y rlhis construction allows the cortito he-slaekeued when-necessary,'as the block -c can berocked to throw the projection 4 out of the hole What I claim, and desire' to secure by` Letters `Pat-A ent, is-
`The slide b, formed with the ribs 2 2, at the edges of the back, and the holes 3 `3 in the raised portion of the'back, in con'ibinatio'n with` the block c, pulley d, and prl'ijection 4as and for the purposes set forth.
Iii-Witness whereof, I have hereunto set myA signature, this Sth day of October, A. D. 1869. L E. TURNER. Witnesses:
F. D. FYLns, HENRY S. BARBoUn.
