IMPROVEMENT IN LOCK FOR FRUIT-BOXES, dto. I
@the rtehnle referrer tu in time t'iiers timt mit mating putt nf tige nime.
TO ALL WHOM I'IMAY CONGERN:
Bc it known that I, CHAnLEsACoLBY, ofthe city of Madison, county of Dane, and State of Wisconsin, have vinvented certain new and useful Improvements in a Box end Lock for Securing and Supportingvthe Cords or Bend of a Fruit or other Box ;Y and I do hereby declaro that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letI ters of referencemarked thereon, like lettersindicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the zirt to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents the strip or sheet of material designed to form the sides of the box. This strip is provided with grooves b c d ef. The peculiar shape of the grooves b c is clearly shown at g, Figures 7 ond 8, while that of the groovesd ef is seen at 7L, Figure 3. The vstrip A is also provided with slots and k, the object of which will be fully seen hereafter. m represents a tuck, formed ut the small endof strip A, by means .of groove b. C represents the bottom of the box, upon which are the projections or rests n n. These projections are designed to fit into the slots z'z', and thus retain the bottom in place.
The. manner of putting my-box together is as follows: Bend the strip around thc bottom, the sides of which must of course correspond to thc distance between the grooves, placing the rests it n in the slots iz', and tuclg m in slot le, The large end of the strip will t into the recess x, seen more fully at Figure 6, while e lock will be formed by alike recess at the groove at which the tuck is bont. Y It may be observed, that` by changing ,the localities ofthe grooves, yet allowing them to retain the same relative position to each other and the slot inthe tuck or loop may be formed at any place ori-strip A.
What I claim ns new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Fastening and holding the band or cord of the box by means` of a single loop, m, with double grooves b e, which double, forms a. hook which keeps the loop in mortise or slot 7c; also the double groove rl ef, which, when bent, forms a groove to receive and hold the ond e e of band or strip, substantially as set forth and described.
2. In'combination with the subicct-matter of the above, I claim the double bearings or rests n n, for the bottom of the box, substantially :is set forth.
CHARLES COLBY.
