Description

H. UHRY, oF.NEw-YoRK, N.VYI
Letters Patent No. 92,67 2, dated July 13, 1869.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, H. UHRY, of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have made certain Improvements in Stair-Rods; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming .part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a front view of the end of one of my improved stair-rods;
Figure 2`1s a horizontal central section of tli'e same;
Figure 3 is a View. of the cap or thimble;
Figure 4 is an end view of the same;
Figure 5 is the screw-eye used to secure the rod to the stair-case; and
Figure 6 is vthe rod, with the thimble or cap removed. A
This invention relates to an improvement on the stair-rod already patented by myself and by M. Krickl, (assigner in all part t me,) and the object aimed at is to obtain a rod requiring no holes nor slotted portions, whereby simplicity and more durability are obtained.
'A is the rod, made of any shape or pattern, and of any material desired.
This rod, having no holes or slotted part, is easily made of rod, ot' pipe, tubing, moulding-strips, 85e., and even of glass rod, simply cut square at both ends.
B isere' end-piece or elimine, which is mede t0 fa snugly upon the end of the rod, and for that purpose is to be of the same shape as its ends.
The thimble B has, on one of its sides, a slotha, terminated by a hole, ,so that wheuthe shank of the screwed eye T is slippedytherein when it arrives at the hole el, the two Wings ofthe screwed eye T, by entering the hole d, will allow the thimble B to spring away from the stair-case riser, and prevent it from slipping oi' the rod.
To place this rod, the two screwed eyes T are screwed in the stair-oase riser, so4 that the rod will slip just between them, and the two thimbles, being' slipped over the rod, having the slotted part straddling the shank of the screws T, the rod will be perfectly secured to its place.
What I claim in this case, andv desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United 4States, is-
The combination and arrangement of the rod A, screwed eye T, and thimble B, operating as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
