IMPROVED WAGON-SEAT.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.

To all whom it ma concern Be it known that I, ANDREW SHELINE, of Edon, in the county of Williams, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in \Vagon- Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front view of inyimproved scat, partly in section, to show the construction.

Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same, taken through the line at x, fig. 1.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved seat for carriages, wagons, 85c, which shall be so constructed as to ride easier and steadier, be more durable and less liable to break or injure the clothes ofthose riding upon it than the spring-seats constructed in the ordinary manner.

And it consists in the seat constructed as hereinafter more fully described.

A is the upper part of the seat, consisting of a seathoard, it, provided with a back, (6 arms, a and downwardly-projecting flange, a, which fits around the lower part B of the seat.

The lower part B of theseat consists of two vertical standards, I), connected at their upper ends by a horizontal board, If.

The standards I) are grooved to receive the bars or slides G, the upper ends of which are securely attached to the seat-board a.

Upon the middle part of the inner sides of the bars or slides O are formed knobs, 0, upon which fit notches or sockets formed in or attached to the outer ends of the levers D, which are pivoted to supports attached to the under side of the board 12 and the inner end of one of said levers fits into a socket or notch attached to or formed in the end of the other of said levers, as shown in fig. 1.

E are coiled springs, any desired number of which may be used, and which are interposed between the board ii of the lower part B and the seat-board a of the upper part A of the seat, as shown in figs. 1 and 2.

To the outer sides of the standards b are attached hooks F, which hook upon the upper edge of the wagon-box or other support prepared to receive them, so that the seat may be moved forward or backward, as may be desired;

The seat thus constructed will move up and down vertically, upon whatever part of the said seat the weight may be placed, and will be more durable than the spring-seats constructed in the ordinary manner, and should one or more of the coiled springs be broken, they can be easily removed and be replaced with new ones.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-

An improved seat, formed by the combination of the upper part A, lower part'B, slides or bars 0, levers D, and coiled springs E, with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the-purpose set forth.
