'ro WHoM rr Mur CONOERN:
Be it known that I, CALVIN ATIIERTON, of Wales, in the county of St. Clair, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Arrangement of Wagomspriiigs; and I do declare that the following4 is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters `of' reference marked thereon, and being a. part of this specification.
,The nature of this invention is so tovarrange `senti-elliptic springs, of ordinary construction, in such a mani ner as to prevent the surging of a. carriage or wagon-body in any direction, and also to keep said body in amorelevel position than is usually the onse when the superincumbent weight is unequally distributed, and, by means of using lighter springs, to obtain more flexibility with less danger of breaking.
The invention consists in attaching tbe semi-elliptic springs A, parallel with eaeh other, suspended from spring A, also hung from similar curved jacks D, all the jacks springing from bars. E, which maybe attached to the rear axle of a wagon, and the forward bolster by anjr known and convenientl device.` I
'I Byvthis arrangement, I am able to use much lighter springs, produce greaterliexbility, with less danger of breaking the springs, and to sustain the box of the wagon in a mor'e level position.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l v The arrangement of the semi-elliptic springs A and C,in connection with the jacks B and D, andtherunninggear of any wago'ilj-r carriage; substantially as herein set forth.
l CALVIN ATHERTON.
