To ALL wHoM IT MAY ooNcERN:
13e it known that I, CHARLES L. RD'GWAY, of Boston', in the county of Su'olk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented, certain new and useful Improvements in Corkscrews; and do hereby declare that the following is arfull and exact description thereof, reference being of reference marked thereon, l
The nature of my `invention consists in providing n stud, which serves es u. fulcrum, witha. notch, which, fitting upenn-shoulder ofthe screw proper, serves to hold it rigidly in line with the handle.
To ,enable'others skilled in the 'art to make and use my invention, tion anduse.
In the drawingsv -Figure 1 represents kthe corkscrew as it appears when in use, the cork.
Figure 2 is an elevation of my corkscrew when ready to be inserted into the cork.
The construction of my corkscrew is as follows: i
C represents the screw proper, jointed to its shank B by the pivot L. is the handle. F is n stud, which 1, 4over which the shank B acts as a. lever for withdrawing the cork. N 'is a, notch, made in the stud F, which fits against the shoulder E of the corkscrew proper, thus preventing that- The tongue a of the screw, and the socket B, into which it Its, are bevelled, vas shown in figs. 1 and 2,50 that'the screw cannot be bent in the direction indicated by the arrow y, fig. 2.
Having thus' described my invention, I will proceed to set forth my claim. I do not claim as lmy invention the corkscrew' invented by S. E. Clapp, granted to said Clapp, February 11, 1868, und numbered 74,199; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The' stud or fulcrum F, provided with the notch- N, working in combination with the'shoulder E,substan tially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
and described in Letters Patent CHARLES L. R'IDGWAY. Witnesses FRANK G. PARKER, v A. HUN BERRY.
had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters I will vproceed to describe its constructhe shcnk B acting as o. lever to withdraw
