in the county of Jackson, and State ofIowa, have inventedv from the team becoming detached' from the wagon or other by declare that the foilowing's full and exact description The nature-of my invention consists in providing thefr'ont end of the tongue with a. spring-latch, which v prevents the neck-yoke from coming oithe tongue,

and the tongue from dropping down in case of a tug or trace coming loose, or other accident, whereby the teem becomes detached, behind, from the vehicle.

' To enable others tolmake and use my invention, I proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I construct my tongue in the usual form, and apply thereto, upon the front end and under side, u springlatch aboutfo'ar yinches long, fastened to the tongue by means of rivets about two' inches from the end. The spring-latch runs back and obliquely down to a point about one inchforward of the stationary latch or stay, and two inches from the tongue, from which said point there is u. half-inch round bolt, about one and a half inch long, fastened tothe point of said spring-latch, and running up through an iron plate into the tongue, and resting upon e. coiled-wire spring Y v This v,spring-latch permits' the ordinary neck-yoke to move to its place over the end of the tongue, und secures it in lits piace between the stationary und the spring-1atch, so that in case the team, by anyl means; becomes detached, behind, frdm the vehicle, this spring-latch prevents theteam from moving forward, soas to let the tongue drop to the ground, from which causo so many serious accidents occur.

What I claim as my invention, andldesire to secure by Letters Patent,.is-
