TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Beit known that I, M. A.'KIN,G, of the city of New York, in the' State of New York, have invented-a4 certain new and useful Improvement on Mulfs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and lto the letters and` marks thereon, which said drawings form part of this specication, and represent a muti', and the frame thereof, 'as .constructed under my invention Y i Figure 1 being a view of the frame, and

In both of these figures like parts are indicated by like marks and letters.

This invention is of the character of an additional improvement to a mufon which Letters Patent were granted to me on the 10th day of December, 1867; the muif having a frame between its exterior and interior surfaces, similar to that shown by lfig. 1, without the continuation marked a, of the central spring-bar or strip; a hinged section of the frainebeing for a lid or cover to a reticule or pocketlying between the fur or exterior Surface of the muil', and .the lining and .wedding or interior surface. 4As thisv frame, whether made of metalspring strips or light bars, `must necessarily be of little weight, the hinges, without some sustaining means, will be liable to be strained or broken by careless raising of the lid or cover, and the catch of the lid will not be likely to fit as accurately and safely in its socket in the front bar of the reticuie.

In raising the vlid or cover of the reticule c, if pressed too far back, the hingesmight be strainedror broken, and when so 'pressed back 'the contents of the reticule would be muchexposed to observation. i

My present improvement consists in having the central bar or strip a pass through the bar cl of the lid, and the bar e of the frame. This strip is secured/to the bar e,las indicated atf, fig. 1,*but is not secured to the bard, a slot in that bar allowing Aof the moving of the lid up or-down to open or close the reticule. This strip or spring plate a will prevent the lid from going too far back, will; sustain the hinges and prevent their being strained or' broken, and will direct or guide the-catch to its socket, so that the reticule can be opened and closed as easily and readily inthe darkas in the light.
