Description
M. A. KING, NEW YORK, N.- Y; Letters Patent No. 72,049, dated December 10, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN MUIFS.
@te tlgrhnle rrfrtteh tu in. Hirse ttttets atmt :mh mating nrt uf tte same.
T0 ALL WI-IOM Il MAY ONCERN:
i Be it known 'that I, M. A. KING, of the Ycity, county, and State of New' York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Mutis; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this'specification, in which-- i Figure I represents a perspective view of my improved muff when open.
Figure 2 represents a vertical central section in the line a: a: of g. 1, the muil' being shown closed.
Figurel 3 represents alfrearrfaee view of the skeleton frame. I
Figure 4 represents a vertical central section of a modification of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The present invention relates to a new and useful improvement in muis, which are designed to 'overcome' the diticulties heretofore experienced in the ordinary mutfs, which have a tendency to become dat and ont of shape after being worn for a short time. This is accomplished inthe present invention, by supplying the ordinary rnuff with a flexible steel or other suitable frame, made up ot sections, applied to the interior of a. mui for the purpose of giving steadiness and shape, and adapting the muf for use as a reticulc or pocket, as shown in the accompanying drawings, and which will be more clearly understood from the following description, in which- A represents the outer covering or fur of the muti', to the vinside of which, between suitable stung a a, is secured a spring skeleton-frame, B, which is made in two parts and hinged together at b. To the opposite or front of vthe mutf` is secured a spring-lock, c, into which fits the catch c of the upper section of frame B. To the upper part of the lower section of the frame B, and the under part of the upper section of said frame, is secured a silk or other suitable packing, C, which, when brought together, will form a convenient pocket, D, for carrying thehandkerchief, pocket-book, 85e., of the wearer. The pocket-book may be attached to the upper seeking al, as shown in the drawing, or placed loosely into the pocket, as desired. The fur ofthe lower section of the muil' is so arranged as to hide the spring-lock c from view. The sectional frame B is arranged in such a manner as not to interfere with the ordinary opening e of the muitp I do not limit myself te a sectional frame as shown in the drawing. The frame B can be made of a series of spring-rings, suitably secured to each other, as shown-in fig. 4, or made of wire gauze.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A muprovided with the skeleton spring-frame B, made in sections, for the purpose of sustaining its cylindrical form', and adapting it for use as a reticule or pocket, substantially as shown and described.
