IMPROVED THILL-GOUPLING.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that we, GEORGE 0. SMITH and ROSWELL JUDsoN, of Matteawan, in the county of Dutchess, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Clips; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.-

A represents an ordinary wagon-clip, provided with a suitable hole, in which fits the part B. 13 represents the strap by which the shafts are attached to the vehicle. The strap Bis made with a head on one end thereof, which holds it in the hole in the clip A, as is fully shown in the drawings. The strap or coupling-part B is made of strong pieces of duck, coated with rubber, and vulcanized in a mould, and may have a thin or flat strip of steel or other metal in the middle of it, to strengthen the same, if thought desirable.

It will be seen that by the above-described device, we make a cheap and durable attachment for shafts, and by which there is no possibility of rattling.

The shaft is bolted to the part B in a. similar manner that it would be to the ordinary shaft-iron.

Having thus fully described ourinvention,wl1at we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
