IMPROVEMENT IN THILL-GOUPLING.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, SILAs ROGERS, of Stamfordville, in the county of Dutchess, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Thin-Coupling; and I do hereby declare that the following is, a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. v

This invention relates to a new and improved mea'fis for attaching thills to axles, and has for its object the ready attaching of the thills to the axle as well as their ready detachment therefrom, and at the same time not admit of the thil ls being casually detached. In the accompanying sheet of drawings Figure '1 is a side View of my invention.

A represents a clip fitted on the front axle B in the usual or any proper manner, and C is a metal plate securely attached to the front side thereof, and having its front edge curved 11 to form the part of a circle, as shown clearly in fig. 1. In the under side of this plate there is made an oblique slot, (1, to receive a pin, 6, which passes through a slot, 0, made in the outer or rear part of the thill-iron D, said slot 0 being sufiicie-rttly wide and long to receive the plate 0, and admit of the pin 1) being fitted in the slot a, the front curved part of the plate 0 extending upward suff ciently high to prevent the pin 6 of the thill-iro'n D slipping casually from the slot at, for

in order to insert the pin 6 in said slot, or to detach it therefrom, the front end of the slot 0 must be raised above the top of the front curved edge of plate 0. If necessary or desired, the front curved edge of the plate C may be covered with India rubber, or other suitable elastic oryielding material, in order to prevent unnecessary play and rattling. I would remark that in lieu of having the slot a made in the plate 0 to receive the pin 6 in slot 0 of the thill-iron, the plate C may be provided with a pin at each side, and the thill-iron provided with a groove at eaclnside of the slot 0; This modification, however, is an equivalent of the one shown and described.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent A thill-coupling, composed of the plate 0 attached to the lip A, and having a curved front end; and the thill-iron D, provided with a slot, 0, and connected to the plate" C by means of a groove and pin, arranged as shown and described, or in an equivalent way.
