@in tlgmtle return it in tlgese gtsttctt atmt mit nuttig nrt nf tige smic.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, I1. A. OELLIG, of Mztrtinsburg, in the count-y oi' Blair, nnd Stute of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit Dry-Houses; and I do hereby declare that the following is o full', clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts, wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
My invention relates to houses for drying fruit und similar substances. In the drawings- Figure 1 is a. sectional view ou the line :z: :e of fig. 2, and
Figure 2 isv a. sectionnl view on the line y gj of tig. 1.
Dryhonses, for drying fruit, have usually been constructed square or oblong, und with their shelves or drawers against the sides of the structure, and in portable dry-`uouse, so that these shelves or drawers might be 'drawn out `from theoutside; but for eheapness, utility, ieconomy, and durability, I have conceived the iden that o, circuler dry-ho use, mede of sheet motel, and in sections, would answer the purposes of ordinary use much better.
I construct my dry-house of sheet iron, or other suitable materiel, in n circular'form, as shown in iig. 2, and of any desirable size. I first make the hase, A, und punch a number of smell holes, C, in the bottom, and over those holes place u slide, d, which muy be moved backward undforwnrd et will. To the huso, A, I joint or t a. section, B, and within this section B, I arrange u series of open drawers, I, ns shown in iig. 1, having their bottoms perforated or slotted. This section I also provide with n door, J, ns shown ini-ig. 2, hinged nt m, undV fes'tened nt Z, und large enough, when opened, to introduce or remove the drawers I. '.lhe drawers I, I make square or oblong. The frame K upon which they rest is attached, at its corners only, to the section oi' the dryhouse. Any desired number of sections may he constructed in n similar manner, and so made as to joint into one another. The upper section C, I provide with a root` or cover, with nu opening at its apex, with :in umbrellashnped covering, h, held in place by two supports, z', es shown in tig. 1, and with nn opening allround under the covering It to allow the escape ot' the nir from the dry-house, and the smoke from the furnace I). Across the upper side ofthe section C, I maken partition, Ii, es shown in g. 1, with an opening,.e, in the contre, with o, slide,f, for opening and closing the seme. Over the opening e, I place o. pipe, o, and extend it upwards towards the covering 7L, and nearly to it. Near the bottom ofthe lower section A, I place the furnace D, which I make in the form of n. cylinder, having its door, u, open outside ot' 'the'dry-house for the supply of fuel, und provided with three or more pipes, E, as shown in figs. 1 and 2: Thesepipes I multe in sections, corresponding with the sections of the dry-house, so that when one or more of the sections are removed, the pipes correspondingr with it can also be removed, und run them vertically through the dry-house und into the partition L, through openings provided for that purpose. They curry the smoke'from the furnace, und, in connection with the furnace, heat the whole interior of the dry-house, ond dry the fruit. VVhenever desired, air is let into the dry-house through the opening at c. As the fruit dries, und the evnporizution dnmpens or fills the nir with moisture, by withdrawing the slide f, the moist-.tir will pass out through the opening e; and when the process of drying is going on, by kcepingbcth the apertures c and c open, a current cf air willconstantly poss in nt the lower end, and out at `the upper end.
As each of the sections composingjbhc dry-house has its series ef'drawers and door, similar to the section B,-it will be readily seen' that the dry-house muy, nt any time, be reduced in size, or enlarged, by removing or adding a. section, and in this way suit itscapaeity to the immediate wants of the person using it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isl A circular dry-house, mede in sections, of sheet iron, orother suitable material, with drawers, furnace,
pipes, and slides, arranged substantially as described.
v L. A. OELLIG.
