Letters Patent No. 95,900, dated October 19,1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame- To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN HARVEY, of Martinsville, in the county of Morgan, and State of Indiana, have invented a new apd improved Fruit-Drier; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art tomake and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The object-of this invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and eificient apparatus for drying fruit, and other like purposes.
The invention consists in an arrangement, in arectangularly" shaped sheet-metal case, of heating-fines and ventilating-passages; also, fi'uit-holding shelves, all as hereinafter more fully specified.
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sectional elevation, and
Figure 2 represents a plan view of my improved apparatus.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the case or shell of sheet-metal, and of rectangular form, the sides ofv which may be corrugated or crimped, for obtaining greater stiflness from thin metal.
The sides 13 are provided internally with brackets O, for supporting the shelves D, whereon the fruit or other articles to-he dried are-placed.
E represents a broad flat flue, beginning at the bottom, Where it may be provided with a fire-place and grate, E, or have the heat delivered to it otherwise, and passing back and forth through the case, as shown at F G, dividing it into compartments H, I,
the interior, or for ventilation.
These openings may be provided with doors or sliding gates, to 'close them, as shown in dot-ted lines at P.
Q represents ventilators at the bottom and top. Those at the top have actors or dampers R, connected by arms to a central disk, T, suspended from the top of the case by a pivot, by which they may be simultaneously turned for opening or closing the said ven tilators. .Similar dampers may be applied to the bottom also.
I provide drawers D with metalframes and wire bottoms, the said frames being made of 'T-shaped bars, formed of sheet-metal, and arranged invertedly.
This construction provides fire-proof shelves of cheap and durable construction.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The arrangement of the case A B, the flue E, F, G, M, dividing the case into compartments, the ventilating-passages Q, and dampers It, all substantially as specified.
2. The improved fruit -drawers or shelves, constructed and arranged as specified.
JOHN HARVEY.
