IMPROVEMENT IN HOISTING-DEVICE FOR TRUCKS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAYk CONCERN:

-Be it known that I, NATHANALBERTSON, of Plainfield, in the county of Hendricks, and State of Indiana, have invented a new'and useful Improvement` in HoistinglDevice'for Trucks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full7 clear, and exact descriptionthereof, which will enable thoseskilled in the art to makeand use the same, reference beingr had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation, showing my improved hoisting-device attached to a high-wheel truck.

This invention relates to a. neiv and useful improvement in a device for raising logs, rocks, or other heavy objects to be moved on a truck, and consists in a sliding vertical ratchet operated by a lever, for raising a log, or other weight, attached by degrees, and a spring-dog, of peculiar construction, for catching the ratchet and holding it securely at any desired point of elevation, as hereinafter more particularly described.-

A represents a pair of high truck-Wheels, such as are commonly used for hauling` logis, stone, and other heavy articles, which are hung under the truck, andraised enough to clear the ground freely. B is the axle,

upon which, over the reach 0,'is secured a strong block, D. An iron ratchet, E, is fitted to slide up and down in the block D, to'beraised by means of a cross-bar or hand-lever, F, the point of which catches in one of the ratchet-teeth while bearing on afulcrum, a. A dog, b, connected with a.` spring, c, engages the ratchet, and holds it, when raised, Vat any desired elevation for lifting the log or other article from the ground, when attached by tongs d, in the usual way, as 'shown in lig. 1. Thevdog b is provided with a handle, e, by which it readily disenga-ges the'ratchet to lower the weight attached.

Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The vertical rack E operated by the leverF, in combination with the spring-dog b, when attached to a truck constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purpose described. 4
