TO ALL WHOM 'l MAY GONCERN:

Le it known that I, EZnA COLE, of Fairfield, in the county of Lenawee, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful improvement in Buckles; and do hereby' dee-lare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to/ make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

The present invention relates to a buckle more especially intended for, use as a buckle for hanne and tugstraps to harnesses, which buckle is constructed in a novel and peculiar manner, and in its construction is an improvement upon a buckle for a similar purpose embraced in an application bearing even datelherewith. In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in buckles is illustrated- Figure l being a plan or top View of the saine, and

A in the drawings represents the frame to tho buckle, which consists oi' apatc, B, having side loops C', and an end cross-bar or piece, D, under which the tug-strap is passed to and through the opening D2, and from thence under t-hc swirelled plate E t0 the part F of ,the buckle-frame to which the hazme-strap is hung'. This part F of the buckle consists of' two side pieces, G, that are made of au angular oreurved shape, and extended through slots or openings I in the plato at proper distances apart, where they hang or turn, as shown more particularly in figg. 2. J, a crosslpicce to the sides G, and connecting their outer ends K, the piate E beingr hung between their outer ends L, with the tongue or pin M tosuch plate toward and in the plate B in position vto engage with the holes oi' the tug-strap when any one is brought opposite to the same. To the cross-piece J the haine-strap is hung. l

By my improved construction of the' buckle the tension of the tug-strap not only draws down the plate B, but as it draws on the tongue the front side of the plate E is drawn down, consequently producing a double pinching of the strap.

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl A buckle, consisting ot' the plate B and frame F, having swivelled tongue-plate E, when-all constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
