IMPROVED TUG-BUCKLE.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,507. dated August 28, 1866; antedated February 28, 1866. v

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY HISE, of the cityof Ottawa, county of La Salle, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Tug- Buckle; and I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which forms part of this specification.

In the drawings which are hereunto annexed, Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my invention; Fig. 2, a side view or sectional view thereof at the line e in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of the same with the tug attached as in practical use.

Similar letters of reference in the different figures of the drawings indicate corresponding parts of my invention.

The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a spring which holds the upper and lower frames together, so in case the tug gets slack or loose it cannot get out ot' place unless detached by some person.

It further consists in forming a combination of the other parts of t-he buckle, so constructed and contrived as to give it great advantage and a superiority over other buckles in respect to strength and durability.

To enable those skilled in the art to understand and construct and make use of my invention, I will proceed to describe the same particularly.

A in the drawings represents the top frame of my improved buckle; B, the traverse-bar with the projecting Journals d and pin a.

C represents the under frame, attached to the traverse-bar or journals d of the upper frame by the holes cast or drilled in, as at D, and revolving on said journals d.

E is a lever cast on traverse-bar B, upon which the spring G rests.

g g is a projection cast on the frame A to intercept the point of frame G, as marked in drawings. h It is for the purpose of preventing the frame G from revolving too far off of journals d.

H is a center-bar attached 'to the frame C, which has a recess, J, and a hole, K, cast through it to admit the spring Gr, so when the spring Gr is putin the said hole K and recess J and rests on lever E, and the top frame, A, and lower frame, C, are combined together at D d, the said spring holds them together.

The loop L at the end of frame O is to attach the leather around for the purpose of f1tting the said buckle to the other part of the harness.

The pina on frame Ain the drawings strikes against the transverse bar H in front, so it cannot bend or let the tug slip back when in use.

The front bar of the frame A is made square, as at N 5 so when the tug is between the frames A and G it holds it fast at that point and relieves the strain on the pin a at the hole which it goes through in the tug.

Having described my improved buckle thus fully, lwill now proceed to describe and specify t what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent.

I do not claim, broadly, or irrespectively of the construction herein shown and described, a buckle and spring; but,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-

As a new article of manufacture, a buckle composed of the two parts A and C, when the former has a projecting pin, a, and is secured to the latter by means of a spring, Gr, attached to O, said frame O having at .its end L a loop, to which the tug-strap is attached, sothat the other part of the frame G remains uncovered, all said parts being constructed in the manner and operating substantially as described,` and for the purpose set forth.
