Be it known that I, ELIES W. LINDEMAN, ot" Manner township, in the county ot' Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful combination or improved Safety-Bridle; and I do hereby declare that the followingv is a full and exact description oi the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichi Figure l shows the combined riding-bridle, with the continued head-stall forming the martingale.

Figure 2 shows a rein when two horses are used, with the strap or rein continued for bitching to the eff horse. Figure 3 shows the application of the latter rein to the horse.

Figure 5 illustrates the passage of the rein C through the ring of the bit A and leather' washer D, forming a loop, E, and returning through the washer and ring of the bit, and continued as C', forming the martingale in one continuous strap or piece.

The object of this invention is to eifectually prevent a horse from throwing up his head, rearing, orlricking, by connecting the lower portion of the extended head-stall with the girth, and so connecting it through the ring of the bit that when a pull is given to the line or rein it will not draw the head of the horse up, although the yielding of the mouth will cause the bit to rise upwards and bring the horse to yield submissively at once. Little more need be said, as the drawings clearly illustrate the construction and operation as to enable any one skilled in the art to make and use my invention. I may, however, explain more fully the several parts referred to by letters, and the operation of the same.

|Ehe continuation of the head-stall C through the ring et' the bit differs from others in this important particular, being also passed through a washer, D, and doubled back, forming a sliding-loop, E. It is through this loop .K the ring F is held, to which ring the lines or reins are att-ached, thus acting on the loop so formed by carrying said headstallvback through the washer and ring ofthe bit, as shown by lig. 5, and continued, forming the niarlf tingale C', which, by means of buckles, is connected to part M, lig. 1, forming a loop, L, through which the girth is passed. Hence, any pull given to the line, rein, (or hitching-rein, 2,) connected with the ring F through the loop E on each side of the horses mouth, draws directly on said sliding-loop E. The top of the horses head being the fulcrum above and the connection with the girth beneath, consequently by drawing the loop out, in its passage both ways through the ring of the bit in the horses mouth, which latter being the only yielding point, the bit is raised upwards, and so elfectually does this arrangement control and govern the animal that no horse, however vicious, will attempt to resist.; besides, the reins and martingale ends of thc head-stall can be readily adjusted, or even connected with `th'e collar. When two or four horses are used I providevmy rein H with a washer, D, and a rcgulating-buckle, I, and extend it into a strap, K, by which it may connect with the saddle or leading horse and keep the oil horse under full control, the adjusted portion II of the rein being passed over the llames, as shown by iig. 3.

The arrangement and combination of the washer D D', `the sliding-loop E, when formed out of the continuous'strap C C', forming the head-stall and martingale of a bridle, and passing twice through the same ringA of the'bit, all applied in the manner shown and for the purpose specified..
