IMPROVEMENT IN GARBIAGE-GURTA' IN BUTTON.
at fitlgtimle reftmt it in that itttters 33mm ant mating part at fig: smut.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HOWELL, of Ashtabula, in the county of A'shtabula, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriage-Curtain Buttons; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification, in which- I Figure l'is a front view of the button.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same.
Like letters refer to like parts in the diiferent views.
A, fig. 1. represents the carriage-curtain. B is the button, which consists of two plates attached to the curtain, plate C being placed on the back side and D on the front, a, point, 12,- extending through at each end of the plate D and overlapping the plate C, as shown in-fig. 2, thus fastening it securely to the curtain. From the front plate D project the ears a, of the shape shown in fig. 2. To these ears, at d, is pivoted the thumb-piece E, of the shape shown in the drawing. At theend of this thumb-piece is a cam, c, for a purpose hereafter shown. At the top of the front plate D is nrib, e, fig. 2. Y
The manner of fastening this curtain is as follows: The thumb-piece E is raised, as shown by the dotted lines in fig. 2, and the curtain placed between the ears and the front plate D; the thumb piece is then brought down, which presses the cam against the rib e, thus holding the curtain securely. I v
This button can be fastened to the body of the carriage, ifdesired, or two curtains can be fastened together, if desired.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The cam c and thumb-piece E, pivoted to the cam, and arranged in relation to the rib d and curtain, suhstantially as and for the purpose set forth.
