're ALL WHOM 1r MAY CONCERN: I p p Be it known that I, JOSEPH K. ANDREWS, of Antrim, in the county of Guernsey and Stateof Ohio, have invented a new and improved Lamp-Burner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full; clear, and
exact description thereof, which will'enahle one skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure '1 is a vertical central section through the section line C D of fig. 2
Figure 2 is a'vertical central section through the section line A B of fin. 1.
Similar letters ofreference indicate like-parts. I
My inventionhonsists of a gauze or perforated metal cylinder with a metal cap, a gas-generating tube protruding through the cap, and an inside cone, all attached. by ahinge to an elevated kerosene lamp-burner, together wi'tlie small tube or tubes burning the oil' direct and in connection with the gas, making a strong, steady, and inodorous flame readily consuming the smoke, dispensing with the glass cylinder, and which can be carriedin the wind=without being extinguished. l
' E represents my lamp-burner, which is elevated some distance above the screw-cap F of the lamp by the wick-tubes G- and O, and supported by the same. The "cylinder' H is of gauze or perforated metal hinged to the perforated metal chamber- I, giiiing a free circulation of air to all the parts. .K is a. metal cone with vents L L on eixch side of the gas-tube M, which-is perforated, slotted, cut intoiteeth or points, at the lower end; as is clearly showuin ,the drawing, fo'r'the purpose of smothering the wick. It is semicircular at'the top; protruding shove the solid'c ap N, andclosely'fitted to the same. '0 is an indepcndentwick-txibe burning the oil direct. The semicircular slot P is for the pnrpo se'of collecting thesurplus gas which escapes from the gas'tuhc M; hywhich arrangement the gas and smoke are thoroughly consumed. I
T disclaim everything claimed in a patent granted meJuly 11, 1865. also disclaim everything claimed in apatent granted meNovember 13,1866.
What I claim as new,--and desire to secure by' Letters Patent, is- 1. The gas-tube M, perforated, slotted, projecting above the cap N, cut at the lower end, and constructed as shown infigt 2 of the accompanying drawing.
2. The adoption'ot the tube 701'- tubes 0 burning the oil direct in combination with the gas, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth i J. K. ANDREWS.
