Description
' H. SIDLE.
Churn.
No. 66,178. I Patented June 25, 1867.
N. PETERS. PMDTO LITHDGRAPHER, WVASHINGTON D C gotten tstrs garnet @ffitr.
HENRY SIDLE, or MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
' Letters Patent No; 66,178, dated June 25, 1867. W
IMPROVEMENT IN GHURNS.
TO ALL WHOM IT'MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY SIDLE, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin, and in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ohurns, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and-exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings making part of this specification, A represents an ordinary barrel or cylinder churn, with the exception that it is provided with vertical cleats or breakers on its inside, which are secured fast to the sides of the churn. B represents the dasher-shaft, which is provided with a series of arms, 0 G.
The shaft passes through an opening in the centre of thecover J, and through a metallic collar, which is secured upon'the top or cover, and is provided on its upper end with a bevel gear-wheel, G. The collar on the under side'of the wheel G rests upon the collar secured to the cover, and thus supports the shaft B. Secured upon the cover J are two metallic supports D D, which are made in the form represented. These supports are placed a little distance apart and are provided at their upper ends with openings or bearings for a short shaft, I. Secured upon the shaft I is a bevel-wheel, F, which gears into the wheel G. H represents a handle, one end of which is secured infmortises or openings made to receive it in the wheel F. By means of this handle the wheel F is caused to partially rotate backwards and forwards, thus communicating a rotary motion backwards and forwards to the wheel G and the shaft-B. One ofthe supports is provided with a cross-bar, e, in which is made an opening to receive a pin, which is secured in the upper end of the shaft B, to form a bearingt'or the. extreme upper end of the said shaft B. The cover is secured upon the churn by means of staples, which are driven in the rimof the churn, and which pass up through slots in the cover, and are keyed after passing through. It will be seen that the shaft B, having two bearings in the irons of the cover, has none and needs none at the bottom of the churn, as is customary.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the box A, provided with ribs on its inner side, dasher B, with its arms C C, as constructed, supports D D, with wheel F and vertical, handle H, for operating cog G on end of dasher-shaft, in the manner and for the purposes specified. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of April, 1867.
HENRY SIDLE.
