UMBINAI'ION OF' PAPER-WEIGHT AND PEN-WIPER.

Be it known that I, DAvm W. WRIGHT, of New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, have invented `certain new and useful improvements in-Combined Pen-Wipers and Papcwwleights; and I do hereby declare that the following'is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe sanne. reference being had to the accompanying drawings which forni part of this specification, in which the letters 'of reference correspond in all the figures,

My said'd improvements form a very simple and convenient paper-weight and pen-wiper combined, upon which n pen may be wiped'without holding the wiper-with one'hand while the pen is being wiped with the other. By the paper-weight being attached to the wiper it isY held in place by its own weight, thereby requiring the use of only one hand; the peculiar form of the wiper being such that the pen may be wiped upon either of its sides with the greatest facility; and when `the wiping surface becomes too much soiled for further use, it may be easily removed, and a new one substituted in its place. The paperweight being used'to hold the paper being written upon, or being copied, insures the pen-wiper to be kept in a most convenient place, upon the top ofthe peper-weight.

To'ennble others to make and use my invention, I will proceedto describe the construction and operation of the same. In the drawings annexed- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, with'thecloth-wiper D.

Figure 2 is a view of the band-removed, with the points for holding it in place.

In the several drawings annexed, A represents apaper-weght, being made of cast metahrglass, or other suitable material, having recesses b b in its top, with o, bese c. e e"e" e'", to hold the covering or wiper D, composed of cloth, down in the recesses b b', while theV band B confinesv the edges of the some against the sides of v(he peper-weight. When the wiper D becomes too much soiled for further use, it is only necessary to remove the metal band, which releases the wiper, and a new one may be put on its place, and press down the metal band, and it `is held in place ready for use. '.lo wipe the pen it is only necessary to draw the convex side of the pen in the recesses b b', und the concave side of the pen upon the projections forming the recesses, and itis cleaned in a. very expeditious manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

I-claim a paper-weight and pen-wiper combined, constructed substantially in the manner as and for the purposes set forth.
