TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, GEORGE F. Few, of the city of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Cards, of which the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an end view; and

Figure 2, a broken cross-section of a hand-card, embodying my said invention, and

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the wooden stock.

Figure 4, a perspective view of the wooden handle and Figure 5, a face view of the said stock and handle united, all of the card shown by figs. 1 and2; and

Figure 6 is a broken cross-seetion..

My invention relates only to such hand-cards as have wire teeth set in leather or other sheet-like material fastened to wooden card-stocks.

My invention consists in making a hand-card of the aforesaid kind, with its wooden stock A, grooved, recessed, or cut away, so as to leave a projecting-rib or ribs, 6, along or around a part or the'whole of the edge or edges, 0, of the leather or other sheet-like material '1), in which the card-teeth E are set, in such manner that the edge or edges 0, (figs. 2 and 6,) of the said leather or other sheet-like teeth-holding material shall be directly opposite to or against, and protected or covered, either wholly' or in part, by the said projecting rib or ribs 6 of the wooden card-stock. By this part of my invention I not only give a neat and durable finish to the edge or edges of the card, but also guard or protect the edge or edges of the teeth-holding sheet from being easily caught and rubbed up or ripped loose byrough work in using the card, allby means of the wooden card-stock itself, and thereby avoid all necessity for fastening on any additional band or bands of metal, leather, or other material to finish or protect the edge or edges of the sheet in which the teeth are set and fastened to the wooden stock.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, isv- A hand-card, having a wooden stock so formed with a rib or ribs, [2, as to thereby cover or protect the edge or edges 0 of the leather or other sheet-like material 1), which holds the teeth of the card, substantially as herein described.
