Be it known that I, A. C. CROSBY, of Union, in the county of Erie, and State of Pennsylvania, have i invented a new and useful Irnprovement in Jeweling Watches; and I do hereby dclare thatthe followingis` a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the' art to make and usethe` same,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an enlarged plan or top view of a jewe .inserted in a watch plate by my invention. Figure 2, a section of the saine with the implement used for setting the jewel. Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. i This invention is designed to facilitate the setting of jewels in watch plates by avoiding the comparatively tedious burnishing operation, and forming the burr over the jewel at a single operation. y v y y A'represents a portion of a watch plate, and a, a jewel fitted in the `plate as usual, to wit, by having an enlarged recess l, made at the-upper part of the hole c, to receive the jewel, as shown in `fig.`2. `B represents a i. die or tool constructed of steel, externally of slightly conical form, and having its end made concave so as to 1 leave an angular rim or edge all around'. This die or tool should slightly exceed in diameter thc diameter of the recess, b, ,in which the jewel is tted, so that by placing the d ieor tool overthe jewel, and pressing it down upon the plate with a gentle turning movement, rst in one direction and then in theother, the edge of the recess, b, will be closed over the upper edge of the jewel, and the latter firmly secured in place, as shown in `iig. y 1. These dies or tools are made of many di`erent sizes vto suit thevarious sizes of jewelsused. One handle" only need be used, as the dies can he readily tted in land withdrawn from it. By this improvement watches may be jeweled with the greatest facility, and by a person not possessed of great mechanical skill, as the proper placing of the die or tool over'the jewel is not attended with 'any diiliculty whatever. y
