sPEc-IFIoAm-ION.
T 'ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN l Be it known' that I, GEORGE W. MILLER, of Springfield, Hampden county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
have invented a new-and useful improved Breeching-Hook; and I. do hereby declare that' the following is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon. y L
This invention consists of a. breechnglhook, to be fastened to the shafts of carriages and other vehiclesand is so arranged `that the ring of the breeching-strap being hooked in is held `in place and kept from playing about.
In construction, I formmy hook of a. plate, which is either fiat or semi-cylindrical, -as may suit the shaft it is to be placed upon, having a h'ook upon its upper side..v Underneath this hook is"` placed a. spring,i'which il 'attached to" the plate, and is so arranged as to support the ring, holding ,it up against the inside of the hook and preventing it from either being displaced or joggling about.
In the drawings, A is the plate to which'the hook B is attached or forms part of. C is the spring fastened i to the plate at its under side and curving upthrough the slot O in the same.- This slotialso gvesroom for the spring when it is pressed down' by the insertion orremoval of the ring F. It will be seen in'iig. 1 that the spring ieforined of several curves, so that in order to get the ring F either inor out of its resting-place in` the hook ,the spring has to be pressed down 'by the=ring passing between'v its highest part and the underside of the hook. The resting-place spoken of il the curve (i, V'on the spring which fits around thebottom part of the ring' F, andl holds'it in place by pressing it against the under side of the hook. 'The platerA- is attached to the shaft K'by means of serewsor other suitable device. The ring F iseitberfastened to the breaching-strap` prolonged or it is connected by means of a shorter strap, G, as lmaybe convenient.
The advantages of lthis arrangement are that a convenient device is thus formed by' which the attachment of the breeching to vthe shaft may be effected in `a very secure manner and in a much shorter time than is the case with other methods of doingthe same; all that is necessary being theimerelzctof hooking the ring inthe hook, pressing it past the rise of the'sprig, and-there'itris secured against displacement, and Else from rattling A,
about; the process of unhooking it being equally simple and short. i
New, having described my invention, .what I claimra's new, and desireto lsecure by Letters Patent, isf- A breeching-hook for the shafts of vehicles, having the spring, 0, constructed substantially in the manner and for the purpose described. v
