GOTTLIEB GRAESSL'E, OF HAMILTON, OHIO.
DRAIN-TILE MACHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,586, dated August 14, 1860.
To all lwhom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, GOTTLIEB GRAESSLE, of Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Machines for Making Drain-Tiles; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to t-he accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is an elevation of amachine embodying my improvement, a part of the tempering tub being in section. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan and Figs. 3 and 4L details.
A is the frame of the machine.
B is the tempering tub provided with vertical shaft G having attached tempering blades D and forcing screw blade E, these by a rotation in direction of arrow being adapted to temper and force the clay through the apertures of gratings F F into the tubes or passages G G. These passages are arranged \on opposite sides of the shaft C so as to give greater facility for cleaning and repairing, and space for the construction of air vents. The ends of passages G are fitted with mold boards g of a shape corresponding to that required to be given to the tiles. The same or different shapes of tiles can be produced from the tubes G at the same time. If necessary one tube only may be worked at a time by placing a plate over one of the grates F. The grates F are attached to slides H and may be changed when desirable. I I is a sliding frame fitted with suitable anti-friction rollers a a.
It is provided with side plates K extending into and fitted to slide snugly in tubes G. A- reciprocating sliding motion is given to this frame by means of a rollered lever J secured to shaft C. The sides I pass backward and forward across the gratings F, by the action of which the clay is received from tub B and delivered at molds g. The sides I have air vents b b fitted with suitable valves to admit air to tubes G on the return stroke of sides, I.
To prevent the clay from adhering to the molds I construct them of wood boiled in oil, in preference to metal or other material. The interior portion g is connected to the exterior portion g by means of a bridge L extending backward in the manner exhibited so that a tubular tile of any desired form may be delivered from the mold without seam.
I claim as new and of my invention herein as an improvement in drain tile machinesl. The oil boiled wooden molds g g constructed and applied in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination and arrangement of the tempering tub B C D E, grated slides F H sliding frame I I valves b and molding tubes G, constructed and operating in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony of which invention, I hereunto set my hand.
GOTTLIEBA GRAEssLE. I/Vitnesses GEO. H. KNIGHT, FRANCIS MILLWARD.
