Shaping the Future of Energy – WHU Business Innovation Challenge 2025
At Infosys, we are proud to have once again sponsored the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management Business Innovation Challenge, now in its fourth year, in close partnership with Vattenfall. This year’s challenge brought together 50 international MBA students from WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management to tackle one of the most transformative shifts in the energy sector: pro-sumerism and the strategic evolution of utilities in a decentralized, renewable-driven world.
Together with Professor Dries Faems (WHU), Daniel Schwarz (Head of Business Development at Vattenfall), and Sofia Trojanowska (Associate Engagement Manager, Infosys), we guided students through a high-impact innovation sprint focused on real-world energy challenges.
🏆 Congratulations to the winning teams!
🥇 Group B – Smart Night-time Sharing App
A bi-directional, app-controlled model enabling prosumers to share stored solar energy at night—when the grid needs it most. A win-win for customers and utilities.
🥇 Group D – VattenMatch: Battery-as-a-Service + P2P Trading
A decentralized, AI-powered platform that stabilizes energy prices and unlocks household-level energy trading.
🥈 Group I – Thermoflex AI
A smart retrofit for district heating networks using digital twins to optimize efficiency, integrate renewables, and reduce costs.
These solutions reflect the kind of bold, data-driven thinking that will define the next generation of energy innovation. We’re inspired by the creativity and commitment of all participants—and energized by the opportunity to co-create a more sustainable future.
Thank you to WHU, Vattenfall, and all the brilliant minds who made this challenge a success. Let’s keep innovating, together.
