• The Government has announced that two key rail projects in the west have been given the green light following last month’s Spending Review.
• The rail line between Bristol city centre and Portishead – which was last used six decades ago – will be reinstated, delivering two new stations at Pill and Portishead and bringing thousands of people closer to the railway and the economic opportunities it provides.
• Two new stations will be built at Wellington in Somerset and Cullompton in Devon, improving transport links to Exeter and beyond and unlocking significant new housing developments.

• Glastonbury Festival officially opens its gates today (Wednesday 25 June), drawing crowds from across the country and beyond as big-name stars take to the stage for five days of unforgettable performances and summer revelry
• Passengers are advised that stations on the festival route to Castle Cary are likely to be busier than normal, with extra rail staff on hand to keep everyone safe
• A queuing system will be in place at London Paddington for services to the festival – GWR requires all passengers travelling to Castle Cary to have a reservation

Bookings have opened for visits to a unique exhibition train, part of a national celebration of the 200^th anniversary of the modern railway called Railway 200. 

Network Rail is inviting the community to find out more about vital work planned for the railway bridge that crosses the A378 in Langport, Somerset, this summer.

Passengers are reminded to plan ahead during June, with one week to go until train services through South Gloucestershire and the Severn Tunnel are affected while vital maintenance takes place over a two-week period.

Network Rail is encouraging people to come along to Reading station on Thursday (29 May) to take part in the second annual family fun day, where visitors can play a variety of games, exchange goodies at a swap shop, create artwork, and learn more about Reading’s railway history.

The Newquay Strategic Route – a new road to improve transport links and unlock economic growth in Newquay – has opened to the public, with Network Rail’s new bridge over the railway now in use.

Network Rail has teamed up with City to Sea, the environmental organisation behind the award-winning Refill campaign, on an initiative that inspires passengers at Bristol Temple Meads to choose refillable bottles, helping to save an estimated 150,000 plastic bottles from ending up as waste.
