The $35.8 million Tower Hill Road project includes replacement of the 55-year-old Tower Hill Road Bridge, carrying Tower Hill Road over Route 138 in North Kingstown, and resurfacing of 6.5 miles of Tower Hill Rd (US-1) from the Route 4 split in North Kingstown to the Oliver Stedman Government Center in South Kingstown.
Throughout the bridge’s replacement, we will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods and (SPMTs) Self-Propelled Modular Transporters. Additional work includes replacing the existing wheelchair ramps at the Bridgetown Road/Mooresfield Road intersection with ADA compliant ones, and improving stormwater treatment.
Alternating lane and temporary exit closures are anticipated throughout this project next week. We are scheduled to mill the Routes 1 (Tower Hill Road) and 138 Interchange ramps, pave Route 1 North, from Shermantown Road to Route 4, and apply a high friction surface treatment at the Routes 1 and 138 Interchange ramps. Rounding out our construction activities, on Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., will be light pole and traffic loop installation. Weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., crews will be working behind barrier at the Routes 1 and 138 Interchange ramps resetting bridge bearings, constructing components of a drainage swale, and performing electrical work for new light system. Anticipate frequent vehicle access in/out of all work zones, use caution when driving over milled surfaces, and follow signed detours during all closures. |
