FAQs about hotels in California
The American Dream
From the searing depths of Death Valley to the snow-capped peaks of the Lake Tahoe mountains, California is a wonderful US state that sums up the American Dream. Nowhere is this more evident than Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood and many stars who grace its red carpets.
In the south-west, Anaheim has a great range of Californian hotels near Disneyland where the magic of the movies comes to life. Sun-drenched San Diego, located close to the Mexican border in the state's south-western tip, is a popular spring break destination as is Palm Springs in a valley surrounded by rugged mountains.
In the well-known wine region of the Napa Valley the vineyards produce some fantastic wines, while Monterey is best known for its spicy cheese and the beautiful coastline that becomes the Big Sur coastal drive. Another driving adventure is the fabled Route 66 and parts of it pass through California, ending at Santa Monica pier.
Along the coast is beautiful Santa Barbara, and further north San Francisco is home to a good proportion of Californian hotels with indoor pools on Booking.com. The Golden Gate city is set around an exclusive bay which ends at Silicon Valley in San Jose, while famous Berkeley University is just across the water. The stunning natural beauty of Yosemite National Park is further east, while Sacramento is to the north-east.

What I like the most is my grandchildren live there.
What I like the most is my grandchildren live there. Driving and parking are crazy, as everyone knows. I once got a parking ticket for no discernible reason and they hounded me for a while. Touristy stuff is generally costly. The light rail system isn't bad and has improved a lot. Santa Monica Pier is a must-see. Beach towns within 1-2 hours are lovely (like Santa Barbara and Dana Point). The entertainment industry is fascinating and unique. Lots of good restaurants from many cultures.Guest review byLudovicoUnited States - 8.0
The views and attractions were great and memorable.
The views and attractions were great and memorable. We visited Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, China Town, and the Ferry Terminal. We also dined at StarBelly in the Castro District, and enjoyed a long walk through that colorful and lively area. We were intrigued by the WeyMo vehicles, but did not try one as there were six riders and we did not think that would work. One drawback we encountered immediately upon our arrival. We were at the WorkForce Transit Center and could not get effective guidance for the public transportation. It delayed us because different people gave different information and we ultimately (after wasting at least 40 minutes) arranged a Lyft transport to the area in which we were staying, We loved the great burgers at Super Duper burgers and an excellent Udon restaurant attached to the Stoneside Galleria, and StarBelly was a wonderful experience (outstanding service, and impressive menu featuring unique and tasty dishes, and excellent wine!)Guest review byMarianUnited States - 10.0

The end of our road trip was to San Diego, 12-17th July, we stayed on Shelter Island in Humphreys Half Moon Inn which was a beautiful oasis. The rooms were like apartments spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was perfect with towels too, and not too busy. The restaurant had really delicious food and wonderful views over the harbour. Great service too. We don’t get around to using our 1hr free cycle hire each day wish we had as the Shelter Island was beautiful. We hired a car for our road trip so had access to things, without a car Shelter Island is a little further away. We visited Coronado Island and the USS midway. Both well worth a visit. We also went to Belmont Park. We pre-booked a whale watching tour on the America Yacht which was absolutely fantastic and we were fortunate enough to see a blue whale incredible. The crew were fantastic it was a great half a day experience. The only downside was could have stayed a little longer to visit more. Loved San Diego what an incredible place.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 4.0

If you are going for Disney Land, then it will be fun, but there is not much else to do here, there are some outlets but with traffic it took us almost 2 hours to make it back to the hotel. We mainly ate at Disney, and we did grub hub food 2 nights. If you are going to Disney and not staying within walking distance to the parks, there is a city shuttle that you can take but be warned, IT TAKES FOREVER to drive by some of the hotels, the drivers are very nice and helpful but we spent alot of time waiting for the shuttle to come by and pick us up, so just be prepared.Guest review byLauraUnited States - 8.0
Monterey is beautiful city worth the visit.
Monterey is beautiful city worth the visit. I would recommend staying couple days to have time to see and do more. I live in bay area so it is along drive and traffic is very bad going to Monterey and also on way back . We did eat at Esteban restaurant at casa munras hotel very good food and service. Lot 9f traffic in Monterey even on weekday. We managed to get around by walking to local coffee shop and restaurantsGuest review byVelasco - 10.0

It has everything! You can swim at the lake, go to a concert, go to a show, if you like gambling go to the casinos, there is a lot of stores, all kinds of restaurants, cinema, gondola, you can golf. Wonderful place to visit.Guest review byFerrari - 10.0
Santa Barbara has a casual relaxed feeling to it.
Santa Barbara has a casual relaxed feeling to it. A walk on the pier is a must. Free 90minute parking but walk instead. The Spanish-style architecture gives the city a unique charm. With the mountains as a background, the ocean spreads out to the west. This is a city to chill and stroll in. Most of restaurants are located on State Street, which was closed off to vehicles and was more like a pedestrian Mall on Sunday night. Not sure if it's closed for foot traffic every night. Do be aware of bikes-etc. on State Street though.Guest review byDennisUnited States - 8.0

I really didn’t get out much in the city as I was there limited amount of time for a concert and left early in the morning. I was briefly in the area of the gold one center and there appeared to be several things around the venue. I also was in old Sacramento very briefly to eat a late night dinner And that was great to have at least one restaurant open until 2 AM.Guest review byQueenBeeUnited States - 10.0

We enjoy going to the beaches, the Boardwalk and the local restaurants. We found that breakfast at Zachary's was excellent. Their potatoes are really tasty and the have homemade bread. We had dinner at Bedda Mia. Their Spaghetti alle vongole and Carbonara is good. We would go back to both of those places.Guest review byAnn - 6.0

I liked the area of the property as its right next to the on and off ramp for the Hwy. Its right next to the Denny's, well as a Walmart super center! Theres also Wendys, and Starbucks across the street! Its far enough from the inner city were there tends to be a lot of riff raff as well low scale crime, as well as drugs. I felt at peace, and you can tell that the management puts a lot towards 2training her staff! Real good hard-working staff as well as very courteous and attentive to the guests needs! I figured that there would be a lot of noise and everything else that's associated with hotels that are more cost effective.Guest review byRufusUnited States
