Popular place for tourists, there are several hotels with restaurants ranging from light bites, relaxed pub-grub and posh nosh. There are also one or two high end eateries (like Olif) but booking is essential. There are several good walks that start and end there, so it's a good place to stay and you won't be bored for a few days. Parking is an issue if you're staying overnight but there are free on-road bays a short walk off the main drag.

Fabulous town with lots to do and see, both in the town and a short drive away. Best places to eat: Telfords Bistro, the Hidden Chapel (very grown up) and the Castle Hotel for one of the best Sunday roasts I've ever eaten (and I am exceptionally picky about roast dinners, as most places get them woefully wrong). I wouldn't bother with the Erskine Arms for food - it seems to be raved about online but we all found it mediocre at best, bar the desserts, which were very good. Also Archway for fish and chips - superb. Pubs were mostly a bit meh for us, but Vinomondo's beer garden was fab (be warned: only one toilet!), as was the shop in general, where we spent a lot! We didn't get round all the shops, alas. Llandudno pier is fun and for outstanding beauty don't miss Bodnant Gardens, which is glorious. And Conwy Castle is unmissable.

It's the perfect location for a family holiday - long beautiful (and very clean) beach; pretty harbour, where you can go fishing for crabs, grab a bite to eat at Davy Jones' Locker (would recommend their breakfasts and their selection of cakes) - it's like an old fishermans cavern and is decorated as such; or catch the small ferry across to Fairbourne where there is a miniature steam railway that will take you across the island; a nice selection of shops in the town; a small fairground and amusements; lots of walking options if you want to explore the local hills; access to the rest of Cardigan Bay via the trainline that runs through the town; a beautiful viaduct walk across to Fairbourne and Arthog (good for birdwatchers/old oak woodland). There's also a large Co-op so that you can stock up if you're self-catering. Just along the coast is a children's farm, and an old slate mine, as well as Harlech Castle, and Shell Island - definitely all worth a visit.

What a wonderful place to visit. Location was perfect.

What a wonderful place to visit. Location was perfect. We visited Portmeirion, arriving at 09:30 with pre-booked tickets and were very lucky as it was quiet. Afterwards we managed to squeeze in a journey on the Ffestiniog railway the same day (once again we had prebooked our tickets). Lots of eateries in Porthmadog but we found an amazing Thai called Thai Harbwr. Food was so good we ate there twice. Check opening times as at time of visiting they were not open Mondays. Wish we lived closer.

A small, compact city that's a little run-down and in need of some government cash to bring more people in. We've never been in such a quiet city centre on a Saturday night; plenty of pubs, not enough people! So many Turkish barbers, so few decent restaurants...and no hotels! Plenty of take-out eateries, but that's not what tourists need! Lovely setting, Welsh government: you're missing out on tourism in Bangor, so splash the cash and glam it up...decent restaurants, a couple of hotels and a modern bar or two. The city should be very grateful for the Black Bull, JD Wetherspoon's, the only busy pub in town!

The town is fabulous - plenty of pubs each with their own food and excellent wine offerings - we tried most and enjoyed every meal. Great walks along safe tracks with magnificent scenery. Lots of shops to purchase some treasures and mementos and cafes serving good coffee and even better cakes!!! We did a ceramics class and had a knitting lesson both classes were fun and we came away with our creations. If you enjoy creating beautiful things I recommend visiting Knit 0ne Natural Fibres and Dipsy Dragon both in the centre of town. A wonderful holiday destination.

This isn't a huge place which is good as you don't get too many people. Not masses to do in the town but plenty of places to eat and drink, plenty of walks and lots of nice clean safe sandy beaches which is great for kids. We ate the the "Coast" along the seafront (best to book ) and had a really nice sensible priced meal and a bonus for us as it was dog friendly. We shall visit again at some point.

The village its self has a good size coop and nice fish and chip shop, friendlier this time than I have experienced in the past. Not far from betws y coed which is very friendly and caters for outdoorsy people. Not a long drive to the coast or snowdonia so a good base if you don't mind driving. Obviously great for mountain biking (Antur stinog) and if you want to visit zip world

Bala is a lovely town at the end of the lake.

Bala is a lovely town at the end of the lake. It seems to consist mainly of one high Street with various shops, pubs and eateries. The lake is beautiful. We hired a double kayak which cost 40.00ph and the whole hiring process was super easy. We also did the steam train ride along the lake which was lovely. There's lots more to explore so I'd definitely go back for a couple of days and explore the area some more.
