FAQs about hotels in Loire Valley
Castles, Vineyards and Views
Boasting a staggering number of castles, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Loire Valley also has picturesque vineyards and riverside towns. Once noble retreats, many of the region’s chateaux are now hotels on Booking.com.
With an imposing castle as well as charming half-timbered buildings, Angers is the meeting point of 3 rivers that flow into the Loire. One of these, the Sarthe, continues to Le Mans, a historic town famous for its 24-hour car race, while Saumur is best known for its horse shows and square castle overlooking the Loire.
Chinon’s large hilltop castle once housed French and English kings, while Villandry castle hosted discussions between the 2 nations. Its beautiful gardens are in geometric patterns, similar to those by Chenonceaux castle spanning the Cher River.
Between the 2 is Tours with its towering cathedral and colourful medieval core. Amboise is a little further east and has a chateau overlooking the region’s typical stone buildings with grey roofs. It also has several Loire Valley hotels with pools.
Blois has yet another royal castle, though its understated exterior doesn’t prepare you for the incredible interior. Nearby Chambord has the largest and most magnificent castle, and the Loire continues to Orléans, a medieval city famed for Joan of Arc and an amazing cathedral. At the opposite end of Sologne Forest is a fabulous cathedral in Bourges.

Must visit the Mechanic Museum and ride on the Elephant around the docks, especially exciting for children. Visit the O Deck restaurant on the docks side of the river, not far from the Mechanical Museum and Carousel. Castle of the Dukes of Brittany Museum well worth a visit, with tremendous views across the city. Easy access to Loire cities via trains or boat trip. Some refurbishment ongoing around the docks area. Shuttle bus available from the airport to the railway station every 20mins, cost 8Euros.Guest review byGarry RoystonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Tours is one of the most staggeringly beautiful cities I've been to. I called in about 7 years ago on my way back from Biarritz and determined that I should visit properly one day. So this was my chance! I was only there for one night but I'd given myself a good 24 hours to have a look around and it took me about an hour to decide that I want to move there permanently. The 'old town' is like something out of a story book with half-timbered buildings and carved decorations everywhere you look. The street level is mainly shops, bars and cafes but you probably won't notice them as you'll be looking up all the time! I stumbled across the 'Canadian Cafe' bar as I was heading back to my hotel but, as I was using a wheelchair, I couldn't get inside. The street outside was full of very interesting people and I ended up talking to some of them who got beers for me. One of the guys was playing in a band who were gigging there that night so the staff and the boss(?) helped to get my wheelchair inside and got me a drink. Brilliant place! Sludge Metal music might not be everybody's cup of tea maybe but I had a great time. As for food, there's everything from traditional French cuisine to the dozen or so Japanese restaurants, Thai, Italian, Tapas bars and lots of generic fast food such as kebabs and burgers. The old town is actually much smaller than I thought. It's easy to get around and it's mostly pedestrianised. It's a beautiful city with great people and a cool, artistic vibe and I'll be back there soon!Guest review bySiobhanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Orléans is an interesting and beautiful city with many interesting places to visit. I loved the architecture the fascinating houses, the river, the relaxed lifestyle, the cities history and the beautiful countryside along the river. The cathedral is a beautiful building with a great sense of peace and calm the art gallery is fascinating. I enjoyed the various events that took place over the weekends in Saint Joan's Square. There are p!entry of places to eat and cafes where you can just sit and relax and watch the world go by.Guest review byTony_PlackettUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train.
Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train. (35Mins). Take a walk along the far side of the old bridge from the food hall and find the restaurants sited along the river bank, where most of the locals hang out. River boat trips can also be booked from this location. The Chateau museum is well worth a visit and provides a history and views of the city.Guest review byGarry RoystonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ever wondered why the Mona Lisa is in Le Louvre?
Ever wondered why the Mona Lisa is in Le Louvre? The answer probably lies in Amboise and the Chateau where de Vince spent the last years of his life. There are two other chateau to visit including one with direct historic French royal connections.Guest review byHowardUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I needed to find a bed without any dinner or other facilities late in the day and only for the night as would be moving on early the next day. Therefore cost was the primary concern. It was cheap and the bed comfortable, though the room noisy when other guests were moving around the building or noisy in their rooms. Don't take breakfast option, it was poor value and not as you might expect when at reception. Behind reception is a pleasant looking restaurant, however breakfast for this hotel is in a side room which is not so pleasant and with not a great selection of food and drink. Check in staff did not make this clear when option offered at check in.Guest review byPatrickGermany - 10.0
A walkable city, very compact.
A walkable city, very compact. Good buses to places of interest and to visit the other side of Saumur over the river. Lots to do for everyone, Cadre Noir horse show, an armoured vehicle museum which is very interesting. Vineyard trips. Activities and restaurants to suit every budget.Guest review byIANUnited Kingdom - 6.0

It was just too small for the price.
It was just too small for the price. There was close to no floor space and the window could not be opened and the aircon was running non-stop and made the room unbearably hot. Not nice and the staff was not very service-minded.Guest review byMaison FrostDenmark
