FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded on 3 sides by water, it is spread over steep hills that make for great photo opportunities. None better than the zig-zag Lombard Street seen in many a film. Other movie stars are the streetcars plying the hill climbs – a little touristy, but still worth trying.

In the middle of the bay is Alcatraz island, famed for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t fancy going inside, the views towards the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere in San Francisco is life more laidback than on the Pacific beaches. Hire a bike and head out there via the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder served in (yes, actually in!) bread is a delight. Chinatown also has a great selection of good value restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want to stay in apartments along those lines, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something to suit. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here.

The city seems to have suffered a lot from recession/covid, a surprisingly high number of empty retail units. It felt a bit as if a spring had given and the city was trying to survive. It is however really lovely but badly hurt.

San Francisco has something to do for everyone.

San Francisco has something to do for everyone. We went to the Presidio for a Brewfest in the day and the House of Prime Rib for dinner. We followed it up in the Marina with a few cocktails at Sully's. There's always something to do and the views of the bridges are breathtaking.

Driving through the inner city and freeways is a joke. Poor traffic management. Stayed to pick up family from the airport and after a 3 hour drive from the north coast ,the drive from hotel to airport was horrible.

Don't let the negative press ruin if for you. It is truly a World Class City. Sure there are areas to avoid, but that is true in most cities. The views, food and culture are always worth the visit.

I think overall 3-4 days are more than enough to visit San Francisco. The top attractions such as Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans wharf, Pier 39 and China town can be easily covered in 1-2 days. If you are into hiking then spend a day around Golden Gate Bridge, walk across the bridge(around a mile walk) and explore the area. In outskirts-there is an excellent Outlet at Livermore who has some great bargains. Can easily spend a day there with shopping and it has plenty of Resturants and cafe to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or light snacks/coffee and cake. In Union Square there is cheese cake factory and Macy's across 5-7 floors to enjoy shopping with great deals. But be aware of some streets with homeless people. Locals are extremely friendly and will guide you.

The location is in a great prime spot walking distance from the Piers to Alcatraz and close to bike rentals for the trail to the Golden Gate Bridge as well as the tram to Union Square. The rooms are clean and spacious and the surrounding areas of the hotel are lovely, especially the outdoor seating area with the fire pits at the front of the hotel. Breakfast is above average and there’s options for different tastes. The waiting staff (Amanda) were very friendly and efficient at keeping tables cleaned.

first of all was greeted by the owner, who was so lovely, made me feel very welcome, advised on how to best spend my few days in san francisco, gave me map, advise what to do and where not to go. The room was very clean, quiet and felt warm (in a good way). shared bathroom and toilet were very clean and not too many people sharing with. The hotel was 10 min walk to Union square and just slightly more to the closest train station (there direct train to the airport) so very easy commute.

Stayed here for a week. Room is very clean and roomier than expected. There is a walk-in closet in the room which is very convenient for storing your purchases and luggage. The location was perfect right across Saks Fifth Avenue in Union Square. All day free coffee and tea in the lobby, and every other day popcorn. Microwave is also available. Staff was very lovely. Enough eating and breakfast options in less than 2 minute walk. This is the hotel to stay in San Francisco.

Is was very clean, the hotel smelled nice. There was a big common area with games and a bar which was very useful since everything closes at 9 in SF. It is very close to everything. I think this is the best location you can get as a tourist in San Francisco
