I planned to visit the city, but after reading up and hearing from some people that lived there i changed my plans. I decided to just visit for the day. The city is suffering from drug and homeless problems, I was told they are trying to reverse a policy of all drug legalisation, which hadn't gone well. I have travelled globally and to some poor countries and bad cities in the past, this had a bad vibe about the place. The "famous" bookstore is just like any other and nodiscript. Portland is a great city to visit, but the area north of Burnside Bridge looks a little rough, with many homeless people. But, that area has some of the best restaurants in town. Dan and Louis Oyster Bar, Jack's Famous Crawfish and of course, VooDoo Donuts. Easy to walk around and the transit system, Tri-Met is second to none. I recently visited Portland and enjoyed its unique mix of urban charm and natural beauty. The downtown area is walkable, full of great food, coffee shops, and local culture. The city has a relaxed, creative vibe and feels very eco-conscious. While there are some urban challenges like visible homelessness, overall it’s a welcoming and interesting place to explore.
