Description

ADDITIVE EQUIPMENT TO MULTIMEDIA EQUIPMENT WITH ADJUSTABLE
DISPLAY
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to the field of consumer electronics, particularly to the portable multimedia equipment.
Background of the Invention
For portable multimedia equipment, especially the mobile phones, the state of the art devices are limited to a maximum of two displays, the displays cannot be enlarged by tilting of the display from the other side of the device. If a part of the display works like a keyboard temporarily, the remaining display surface area is reduced by that.
This application expands the ideas of the applications PCT/CZ2013/000124 (WO 2014/053106), PCT/CZ2014/000056 (WO 2014/183734), which applications already belong to the state of the art.
Summary of the Invention
An additive equipment to a multimedia equipment with an adjustable display resolves the disadvantages of small displays in portable multimedia equipment, in particular in mobile phones and tablets, requiring minimization of dimensions, in that the additive equipment, preferably removably located on the multimedia equipment, comprises at least one add-on display, which add-on display is adapted for a parallel position, in which position the add-on display is positioned in parallel to the display of the multimedia equipment display, which multimedia equipment display is placed on the opposite side of the device, what is the position intended for carrying the assembly of the multimedia equipment with additive equipment and for work with two displays situated on the opposite sides of the multimedia equipment.
The display of the additive equipment is designed to tilt up to 180 degrees to the "extended" position when the add-on display extends the display of the multimedia equipment display. When tilted to an angle of more than 180 degrees, the add-on display takes a "tilted position" with regard to the multimedia equipment display.
By rotating to 360 degrees, the add-on display goes into a closed position when none of the displays is visible, wherein the positon is suitable for carrying the device assembly without any need to watch the display, and simultaneously, the displays are protected against damage. For the user, both the position of the display, or of the displays, of the additive equipmentadditive equipment and the layout what displays which part of the total display surface area are optional.
Thus, optionally, both displays display preferably one image, or each display displays a different image independently. Or, one display, for example the multimedia equipment display, displays and creates simultaneously a touch keyboard, and the other one, such as an add-on display, forms a monitor for this keyboard.
Or, a part of the display, for example the multimedia equipment, forms a keyboard, and the rest of this display, together with the whole add-on display forms together a monitor for the keyboard, what brings the advantage of enlarging the monitor display to a format similar to the PC monitor format so that the multimedia equipment with the additive equipment is preferably usable as a portable PC. In an alternative embodiment, the add-on display consists of two portions of selectable dimensions hinged to allow 180 degrees tilting from the parallel position to the opposite directions according to the opposite ends of the multimedia equipment to the extended position, wherein preferably all displays display one image together or each display displays some independent image.
Or, preferably, one peripheral display shows a keyboard to a monitor consisting of the two remaining displays. This increases the surface area for displaying, and in case of the monitor, it also adjusts the display format of the multimedia equipment display to a format similar to that of a standard PC display format.
By further tilting of one of the add-on displays, i.e. by tilting beyond 180 degrees, a tilt of the display serving as the touch keypad is achieved over the two remaining displays that remain in the plane, and preferably by the use of the stabilizing element, preferably of the hinged support for stabilizing of the position of the displays, by tilting of the support, a position similar to the position such as in case of a PC with a keyboard on a table and a monitor perpendicularly to the desk is reached.
The positioning mechanism of the auxiliary display or of the entire additive equipment is adapted for tilting of the additive equipment with the add-on display or of only the display, when the additive equipment remains removably fastened to the multimedia equipment by connecting elements, which elements are preferably formed by magnets.
The mechanism for adjusting of position of only the auxiliary display is mounted on the additive equipment and is adapted for tilting of the auxiliary display with regard to the additive equipment and the multimedia equipment at the same time.
In case that whole devices are adjustable against each other, their mechanical and electrical connections are made by means of a mechanical and electrical adjustable interface.
In a further variant, which is without an additional device, the mechanism for adjusting of position is mounted, preferably removably, on a multimedia equipment and is adapted by means of a connector element for tilting of the auxiliary display in relation to the multimedia equipment and simultaneously it allows electrical connection.
This arrangement allows connecting of an add-on display only when needed.
The positioning is made possible by multi-segment hinges and by electrical connections both on the multimedia equipment and on the additive equipment, which in cooperation enable to set them up to the desired position and, in addition, the discontinuity of the displaying is minimal.
The additive equipment attached to the multimedia equipment comprises has at least one display attached to it, and as a whole it is tilted with regard to the multimedia equipment, or only its display is tilted, or the add-on display is a part of the additive equipment, which part is separated from it, wherein the basic part of the additive equipment, which comprises mainly the processor is connected to the multimedia equipment or integrated in it. Alternatively, the additive equipment is only a connectable, tiltably hinged add-on display provided with service electronics.
The additive equipment is removably attached to the multimedia equipment or it is integrated in the multimedia equipment or in the auxiliary display. The add-on display is tilted together with the additive equipment or is tiltably mounted on the additive equipment or on the multimedia equipment.
In other alternative embodiments, the adjustable mechanism is purely mechanical and the electrical connection is solved by wireless transmission.
Preferably, magnetic positioning mechanisms for adjusting of position are used in this case, where the multi-segment hinges are divided into a part belonging to the multimedia equipment and a part belonging to the additive equipment and the whole is formed by attaching and snapping their magnetic parts in a desired position.
Preferably, these hinges are fitted on all sides of both devices and allow so connecting of the additive equipment display to any side of the multimedia equipment, and thus extending of the display towards the desired side.
Alternatively, the multimedia equipment is supplemented by one or two put-on displays that are connected by means of positioning mechanisms that allow unfolding from the folded state when the assembly takes up the ground plan of the multimedia equipment into the unfolded state when all displays are fixed in one plane to obtain up to three times larger ground plan surface area, and hence the surface area for displaying.
To this assembly, it is possible to attach or mount a two-part unfoldable keyboard, which in the folded state occupies the ground plan of the multimedia equipment and the double of it after it is unfolded.
The multimedia equipment is equipped with a stand, which in the unfolded state allows such position of the displays with regard to the keyboard that is usual for an open notebook. Together, all devices form a "notebook kit" that is portable in a small box that is designed so that the multimedia equipment is on top with a visible display under it, and with other elements, that is 0 to 2 displays and 0 or 1 keyboard further und it. The small box is of variable height so that the assembly that the user chooses can fit into it.
Configuration of the multimedia equipment and the additive equipment allows for independent displaying of different applications running on both devices also during passing of information between them, wherein preferably both devices operate on different operating systems.
Usually, the multimedia equipment is designed so that the functions associated with telephony and data transfer have priority, and thus the displaying is switched from the currently displayed application to displaying that corresponds to the telephone functions. So the user has the ability to get a permanent displaying of an application that has priority for him.
A further improvement is that the additive equipment is preferably provided with a SIM card, preferably from another mobile service provider than what is the one for the multimedia equipment, whereby greater reliability of availability of data provided by cooperating devices, servers, the Internet, etc. is ensured.
Another advantage is backup and/or duplication of data such as of GPS.
An advantage of using different operating systems on a multimedia equipment and on the additive equipment consists in that a wider range of usable applications is available, wherein both devices are able to pass the data.
Alternatively, the additive equipment includes multiple microprocessors and preferably operating with multiple operating systems, what again extends capabilities of the device assembly.

Examples of Embodiments of this Invention
Fig. 1 illustrates the mechanical layout of the connection of a multimedia equipment 600 provided with a multimedia equipment display 178 with an additive equipment 104 provided with an add-on display 325 removably mounted on multimedia equipment 600 by means of connecting elements 209, wherein the add-on display 325 is rotatable by means a positioning mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, which positioning mechanism 207 is preferably formed by a hinge mechanism 200. In the illustrated folded state in parallel position both devices 600, 104 form a compact whole, which whole is provided by displays 178, 325 on both sides of both devices 600, 104, as it is illustrated in the "D" and "Dl " views. Preferably, the positioning mechanism 207 is disconnectable from the multimedia equipment 600, which multimedia equipment 600 is then operable preferably without the additive equipment 104.
Fig. 2 shows an add-on display 325 tilted away from the additive equipment 104 by means of a mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, preferably by means of a hinge mechanism 200, to a position 180 degrees away to the extended display position, which position is horizontally planar with the plane of the multimedia equipment display 178 of the multimedia equipment 600 so that together they form a single continuous extended display.
Fig. 3 illustrates tilting of the add-on display 325 away from the additive equipment 104 to an angle which is smaller than 180 degrees into a tilted position, which tilted position is suitable for displaying of a keyboard on the multimedia equipment display 178, which multimedia equipment display 178 is preferably provided with a touch screen, and of data or documents on the add-on display 325 of the additive equipment 104.
In the embodiment illustrated in Fig, 2 and Fig. 3, only the add-on display 325 is tiltable. In the parallel position of the multimedia equipment 600, the add-on display 325 enlarges the displaying surface area of the multimedia equipment display 178 with the objective to display larger images, and also it preferably serves as a notebook computer provided with a keyboard on one of the displays and/or as a portable television set which uses a display format that is closer to the format of a standard television set than how it is in case of a display of a multimedia equipment without any add-on display of an additive equipment. The TV signal is received over the Internet using the multimedia equipment 600, or preferably a tuner placed within the multimedia equipment 600 or within the additive equipment 104 together with a tiltable or telescopic antenna.
Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 illustrate designs similar to those illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, wherein the whole additive equipment 104 together with the add-on display 325 is tiltable using a mechanism 207 for adjusting of position. Figures 6, 7 and 8 illustrate a solution in which the entire additive equipment 104 is tiltably hinged using a mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, which mechanism 207 is preferably formed by a three-segment hinge 201, comprising three segments, wherein owing to them in different angles of tilting the gap between the displays 178, 325 is as small as possible, what allows to form a continuous display, as it is shown in Fig. 9. Such continuous display is adapted to display one image split into two displaying fields, or to display two images, wherein, preferably one display is provided with a touch screen that displays a keyboard, and the other display displays a selected image, preferably it plays the role of a notebook.
Fig. 10 and 11 illustrate a splitting of the add-on display 325 into two sections, further called as the first segment 210 of the add-on display 325 of the additive equipment 104 and the second segment 211 of the additive equipment 104 of the additive equipment 104. In this configuration, after tilting of both independently tiltable hinged segments 210, 325 into opposite directions by means of the mechanisms 207 for adjusting of position, enlarged displaying surface area is formed. The enlarged displaying area is formed by coupling of the multimedia equipment display 178 of the multimedia equipment 600 and of the displaying areas of two segments 210, 211 of the additive equipment 104, wherein preferably the displaying area is adapted so that separately one of the segments 210, 211 of the display of the additive equipment 104 is used independently, preferably for a touch keyboard and the other one as an associated one with the multimedia equipment display 178 of the multimedia equipment 600, with the objective to enlarge its displaying surface area, whereby, this modification can serve as a notebook, or the enlarged surface area comprising all three parts is adapted for displaying of a single image.
Fig. 12 illustrates an assembly of the multimedia equipment 600 and the additive equipment 104, which is shown in the parallel position, when their mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, preferably comprising a three-segment hinge 201, is positioned as far as possible to the edge to produce the largest possible surface area of the united display, which united display comprises the multimedia equipment display 178 and the add-on display 325 being in the extended position, so as it is shown in FIG. 13.
Fig. 14 illustrates an example of the mutually inclined position of the multimedia equipment display 178 and the add-on display 325. The three-segment hinge 201 is formed by a segment with two hinge pins, wherein other two segments extending from the hinge pins are anchored, one in the multimedia equipment 600 and the other in the additive equipment 104. The segments have such a length and pitch of the hinge pins that the so formed assembly achieves that in the parallel position the multimedia equipment 600 and the additive equipment 104 with displays 178, 325 situated on the opposite sides are closely attached and in the other extreme position, after having been rotated 360 degrees to each other, the displays are closely attached to each other. In the most common use, the angle of rotation is about 240 degrees from the rest position, and thus the displays form an angle approximately 120 degrees and they contact each other by their edges. Preferably, the hinge 201 is removable from the multimedia equipment 600, which the multimedia equipment 600 preferably operates also without any additive equipment 104.
Fig. 15 illustrates the situation described with regard to the Fig. 12, but the additive equipment is divided into two parts, namely into a first segment 1041 of the additive equipment and a second segment 1042 of the additive equipment, including its display, which display is divided into the first display segment 210 of the add on device and the second display segment 211 of the add-on device, wherein both parts are attached to the multimedia equipment 600 by their own mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, preferably by a three- segment composite hinge 201. This makes possible to set all three parts in a parallel, tilted or closed positions.
In the example illustrated in FIG. 16, the first display segment 210 of the add-on device is used to display an image of the keyboard, and the second display segment 211 of the add-on device is used to enlarge the displaying surface area of the multimedia equipment display 178. Such a configuration is provided with a stabilizing element 217, preferably with a hinged support 206 providing stability to the assembly when it is used as a notebook.
Fig. 17 illustrates an additive equipment 104 detachable from the multimedia equipment 600 by a mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, preferably by a mechanical one and by electrically adjustable interface 205, which provides for combining them with the tilting function as shown in Fig. 12 and for their disengagement.
Fig. 18 illustrates use of the mechanism 207 for adjusting of position, which mechanism consists of a five-segment composite hinge 208 comprising five segments 202 and six hinge pins 203. The multimedia equipment 600 provided with the multimedia equipment display 178 and the additive equipment 104 provided with the add-on display 325 are mechanically connected by this five-segment composite hinge 208. This technical solution ensures that at any angle formed between the displays 178 and 325, it is possible to bring them close to each other so that the gap between the displays 178, 325 is as small as possible.
Fig. 19 illustrates a block diagram of an assembly of a multimedia equipment 600 and an additive equipment 104 provided with an add-on display 325. A multimedia equipment control unit 6001 of the multimedia equipment 600 is coupled to the control unit of the add-on device control unit 1044 and the display control unit 3251 of the multimedia equipment 600 by wire connections 223 and/or by wireless connections 224. Preferably, the base portion of the additive equipment 104 can be provided with an replaceable add-od device battery 1291 adapted to power and/or recharge the multimedia equipment 600, and/or the add-on display 325 is provided with the add-on device display battery 1292.
The multimedia equipment display 178 and the add-on display 325 display an image transmitted from the multimedia equipment control unit 6001. When using the "split screen" feature of the multimedia equipment, the displays 178 and 325 are adapted to display an image, which is split in two parts displayed in two "split screens" instead of displaying this image only in one screen of one display. This feature is preferably called "two screens" so that the original "split screen" can be used to display two images on the multimedia equipment display 178 of the multimedia equipment 600, especially when the additive equipment 104 or the add-on display 325 of the auxiliary display is not used.
Preferably, the multimedia equipment display 178 is adapted to display independent different applications or data from an application displayed on the auxiliary add-on display 325, wherein both of them are processed in the multimedia equipment control unit 6001 of the multimedia equipment 600, in one or more microprocessors, or they are processed in the multimedia equipment control unit 6001 and in the add-on device control unit 1044 independently for each display.
The applications are downloaded into the multimedia equipment 600 and/or in the additive equipment 104 via a Wi-Fi network or a mobile operator's network, or via a network connection to the Internet or connection of other devices, such as of a PC and/or a ECG monitor via a wire or wirelessly.
Preferably, the multimedia equipment 600 is adapted to be used together with an additive equipment 104 with an add-on display 325, or also for independent use without any additive equipment 104 with an add-on display 325 only using the multimedia equipment display 178.
The additive equipment 104 is preferably connected disconnectably to the multimedia equipment 600, or preferably it is connected disconnectably to the add-on display 325, also independently, without the additive equipment 104. The control unit 6001 of the multimedia equipment 600 is provided with one or more processors and/or a multi-core processor, which are adapted for electric connection, preferably by a connector, what allows independent processing of one or more mutually independent applications that are displayed on the split screen displays 178 and/or 325 and/or that are displayed on at least two displays 178, 325.
