Definitions
- the present invention relates to a dust cover for a ball joint, and more particularly to a dust cover for a ball joint that can maintain a favorable sealing property even when used for a pinch bolt type ball joint.
- ball joints are used in automobile suspension systems and steering systems.
- the ball joint is internally filled with grease for smooth movement, and is usually covered with a dust cover in order to prevent the outflow of the ball joint and to prevent water and dust from entering from the outside.
- ⁇ Ball joints include tapered ball joints and pinch bolt ball joints depending on the fastening method of the knuckle and stud.
- the tapered ball joint determines the position of the knuckle 200 at a position where the tapered outer peripheral surface 100 a of the stud 100 and the tapered inner peripheral surface 200 a of the knuckle 200 overlap each other.
- one end surface on the small diameter side of the dust cover through which the stud is inserted has a dust lip, and the dust lip is in close contact with the lower surface of the knuckle so as to seal between the knuckles. It has become. Therefore, the seal part by the dust cover is formed from the outer peripheral surface 100a of the stud 100 to the lower end surface 200b of the knuckle 200 as indicated by reference numerals S1 and S2 in FIG.
- the pinch bolt ball joint has a structure in which a knuckle 200 is fastened to the stud 100 with a bolt 300, and a slit groove 201 is formed in the knuckle 200. Has been.
- the seal part by the dust cover is formed only on the outer peripheral surface 100a of the stud 100, as indicated by the symbol S in FIG. For this reason, it has a structure in which foreign matter such as mud from the slit groove 201 and rust powder of the knuckle 200 easily enters. When such a foreign substance enters, wear of the seal lip portion proceeds due to the accumulated foreign substance, and the sealing performance is easily impaired.
- annular plate also referred to as a washer, ferrule, etc.
- Patent Document 1 an annular plate having an insertion hole through which the stud is inserted is sandwiched between the knuckle and the dust cover so as to suppress entry of foreign matter
- FIG. 10 shows a mounting structure of a dust cover stud mounting portion 500 provided with a conventional general annular plate 400.
- the annular plate 400 is formed in a ring shape having an insertion hole 400a through which the stud 100 is inserted in the center.
- the diameter of the insertion hole 400 a is formed slightly larger than the outer diameter of the stud 100. For this reason, it is not possible to completely prevent foreign matter D such as mud and rust powder from the slit groove 201 of the knuckle 200 from entering the upper end surface 500a of the stud mounting portion 500 through the insertion hole 400a.
- the foreign matter D enters the narrow space 600 formed by the insertion hole 400a of the annular plate 400, the outer peripheral surface 100a of the stud 100, and the upper end surface 500a of the stud mounting portion 500.
- this narrow space 600 there is no escape place, and the foreign matter D continues to accumulate on the spot, so that the progress of wear caused by the foreign matter D cannot be completely suppressed. For this reason, even if the annular plate 400 is provided, only a slight life extension effect is obtained.
- the present invention can suppress the progress of wear even if foreign matter enters the upper end surface of the stud mounting portion from the gap between the outer peripheral surface of the stud and the insertion hole of the annular plate, and can ensure the sealing performance for a long period of time. It is an object to provide a dust cover for a ball joint.
- the dust cover In the dust cover attached to the ball joint with the knuckle attached to the end of the stud, The dust cover includes an annular plate interposed between the stud mounting portion through which the stud is inserted and the knuckle, and a reinforcement ring is embedded in the stud mounting portion.
- the reinforcing ring is integrally provided with a protruding portion that protrudes from the upper end surface of the stud mounting portion toward the annular plate, thereby forming a space portion between the upper end surface of the stud mounting portion and the annular plate. Dust cover for ball joints.
- the protrusion is formed in an annular shape over the circumferential direction of the reinforcing ring, 2.
- the dust cover for a ball joint according to claim 1 wherein an annular dust lip that contacts the annular plate is formed on an outer peripheral side of the stud mounting portion. 3. A plurality of the protruding portions are formed at intervals over the circumferential direction of the reinforcing ring, 2.

- the cover body 1 is formed in a cup shape by an elastic material such as a rubber-like elastic material such as chloroprene, or a thermoplastic elastomer such as a polyester-based elastomer or a thermoplastic polyurethane.
- the annular plate 6 is a hard synthetic resin or metal ring member having an insertion hole 61 through which the stud 7 of the ball joint B is inserted at the center.
- the stud mounting portion 2 is opened to a small diameter so that the stud 7 of the ball joint B is inserted and slidably mounted on the outer peripheral surface 71 thereof.
- a plurality of seal lip portions 21 are formed on the inner peripheral surface of the stud mounting portion 2.
- the socket mounting part 3 is fixed to the socket 8 of the ball joint B in a fixed position by opening with a larger diameter than the stud mounting part 2.
- the socket 8 is a member that rotatably holds the ball head 72 of the stud 7.
- a hard synthetic resin or metal reinforcing ring 4 is embedded in the stud mounting portion 2.
- the reinforcing ring 4 is integrally formed with an annular protruding portion 42 that protrudes in the axial direction over the entire circumference of the reinforcing ring body 41 on the outer peripheral edge of the upper surface of the annular reinforcing ring body 41. ing. And the reinforcement ring 4 is embed
