La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de séparation, suivant lesquels du CO2 est séparé d'un courant d'alimentation gazeux comprenant du CO2 et du H2, et consiste à : (i) refroidir et condenser partiellement le courant d'alimentation; (ii) faire passer le courant d'alimentation refroidi et partiellement condensé provenant de l'étape (i) dans un premier séparateur vapeur-liquide pour produire un courant de vapeur ayant une teneur accrue en H2 par rapport au courant d'alimentation et un courant liquide ayant une teneur accrue en CO2 par rapport au courant d'alimentation; (iii) provoquer l'expansion d'au moins une partie de l'écoulement liquide provenant de l'étape (ii); (iv) faire passer le courant expansé provenant de l'étape (iii) dans un second séparateur vapeur-liquide pour produire un courant de vapeur ayant une teneur accrue en H2 par rapport au courant liquide provenant de l'étape (ii) et un courant liquide ayant une teneur accrue en CO2 par rapport au courant liquide provenant de l'étape (ii); (v) provoquer l'expansion d'une première partie du courant liquide provenant de l'étape (iv) et chauffer celle-ci, un refroidissement dans l'étape (i) étant prévu au moins en partie par un échange de chaleur pendant un chauffage de la première partie du courant liquide provenant de l'étape (iv) dans l'étape (v).
