Abstract

The invention relates to technology for weighing motor vehicles as they are moving along a road (weigh-in-motion – WIM). The invention makes it possible to increase significantly the accuracy of the measurements from all of the weight sensors installed on a road, without the use of separate precision scales, thus reducing the cost of the equipment used. This result is achieved in that in the method for weighing a motor vehicle as it is moving along a road: weighing devices for weighing a motor vehicle wheel-by-wheel or axle-by-axle are installed on the road; a reading device for reading the identification mark of a motor vehicle and simultaneously recording the time of the reading is placed in proximity to each of the weighing devices; in a data processing centre, a reading is received from each weighing device as a wheel or the wheels of each of the axles of a specific motor vehicle pass over the device, and at the same time at least one identification mark of the motor vehicle in question is read by the corresponding reading device and the time of the reading is recorded; the weighing device readings received by the data processing centre are used to generate series of measurements individually for each wheel or for each axle of a motor vehicle with the same identification mark; the weighing device readings in a given series of measurements are averaged; and the weighing device readings for a motor vehicle having the same identification mark, which make up the series of measurements in question, are equated to the average value for that series of measurements.
