  • the present invention pertains to the field of recovery of hydrocarbon gas from a coal-bearing formation or gas reservoir. More specifically, the present invention relates to the economically efficient development of a field having coalbed methane.

  • more than one coalbed zone is simultaneously dewatered to a designated level.
  • the co-produced gas from the produced zones is sent to a single, previously dewatered coalbed zone for temporary storage.
  • Injecting gas into a dewatered coalbed zone to repressurize or even increase the pressure above an initial pressure may cause adsorption and storage of significant amounts of gas.
  • This gas may be stored for perhaps about 1 to about 5 years until gas processing and export facilities are available.
  • the increased pressure in the dewatered zone may help keep water from flowing back into this zone.
  • wells used for dewatering a coalbed zone are also used for injecting gas for storage in the zone.
  • gas produced from a coalbed zone may be temporarily stored in two or more types of subterranean formations.
  • the produced gas may be injected into and temporarily stored in a salt cavern, an aquifer zone, or a depleted hydrocarbon reservoir, in addition to storage in an earlier dewatered coalbed zone.

Abstract

L'invention porte sur des procédés pour gérer la production de fluides venant d'une formation sous la surface à faible perméabilité dans un champ, lesquels procédés peuvent comprendre la production de fluides à partir d'une formation de filon de houille. Le procédé met en œuvre la production de fluides de formation à partir d'une première zone dans la formation sous la surface pendant une certaine période de temps de façon à déshumidifier au moins partiellement la première zone. Les fluides de formation sont séparés en un courant de liquide qui comprend principalement de l'eau, et un courant de gaz qui comprend principalement du gaz méthane. L'eau est envoyée pour la mise au rebut, par exemple dans une formation sous la surface, tandis que le gaz est temporairement stocké ou brûlé à la torche. Une installation de traitement de gaz est construite pour le champ.
